Any other May Surgeries out there?

I am scheduled for a laperostic gastric bypass May 9th. I start my diet tomorrow. I'm nervous and excited about a new life. I feel hopeful for the first time in years about my weight. I am a mom of 8 with a full time job. I nervous about recovery. I can't afford to be down for long. I know everyone always says to take care of yourself first, but I have never been good at that. Hoping to make a change. Any other May surgeries out there? Would love to know how others are feeling.

You are just out of surgery now. I hope you feeling awake and not in too much pain. Do you have help at home? My surgery is may 18...right around the corner. I'm very excited

Hello, June 3rd is my big day. Getting the sleeve. Nervous and excited are my feelings as well. I have to keep reminding myself that I asked for this! Trying to do all I can to make this process easier. Like you, I need to back on my feet ASAP.

Hi there,

I had mine done May of 2011. I am a few days past my 5 year mark. It was nothing. The first day after surgery I was walking around. The next day I went home. I had pain meds but I did what I could do.

The more you walk and move your body around easily, and carefully, the better the recovery. I had sharp shoulder pain for a few days, but after I amped up my walking just a bit, it went away. That's just air pockets so you want to make sure you move around. My mother had hers done at the end of March. She calls me everyday "can I eat this" or "is it okay to do this workout". Even though I took her through what I experienced, what I had to go through, the ups and downs, the plateau's and everything. The foods to not eat and what can or will not get stuck and so on. But I don't mine. I didn't have anyone that I could talk to about this so, I don't mind helping her out. I just wish I was closer so I can go walking with her and do exercises with her. She makes a lot of excuses to not workout so, there's only so much I can do on the phone.

This is a great thing so just take you time, don't be in a rush to run a marathon a month out of surgery. Buy a pedometer, make sure to get up to 10,000 steps and add 500 more steps a week. I was told to walk walk walk walk.

Good luck and God bless

Debbie
