The only time I've heard of a 2nd surgery is if you had a non bypass surgery before. Examples; sleeve, stapling or lap band. I do not believe that a bypass can be redone.

I heard a few people on here have had revisions to there bypass or something like that done....

I had lapband surgery 9 years ago. Had that removed last Aug. because it was causing problems and I gained back 75 lbs. of the 99 I lost. I had gastric bypass Jan. 10th. I don't know if they do a second surgery if you've had bypass before.

I recant my earlier post. Upon doing some research I did find out that there is a surgery that can be done to decrease the size of your stomach. I don't know that every surgeon does it, but it is being done.

I think if you've had a bypass done in the past, the only thing they may be able to do is just remove the 80% of the stomach that was left in the first time and do the duodenal bypass, just a guess, but seriously, If you had the bypass the first time and followed the diet they tell you to follow the rest of your life, and kept eating the smaller portions, you would not need a second surgery, sorry if this sounds harsh, but you must have gone back to your old habits and gained most of it back. Well good luck, God bless ALL.
I've been thinking of your response to Kiki, Theresa. Your attitude was very upsetting. Have you heard the saying, "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all?" How do you know that she gained most of her weight back? Her post merely said she wanted to lose weight. Let's see you down the road and see if you've kept all of your weight off. Until you are in someone else's shoes, you can't assume anything that has happened. As to your God bless ALL. A true Christian would not treat someone the way you did. I see you are a new member. Maybe you didn't realize that we are here to support each other, not tear each other apart.

I am a Christian, and I didn't mean any harm, I'm sorry if I offended anyone on this app, I'm still new to all of this myself, so I do apologise to everyone that was offended by what I said, a friend of mine that had gastric bypass surgery, told me another person she knew, that had gastric bypass gained all her weight back, an was getting the surgery again, it kind of defeats the purpose. Anyway I just wanted to let everyone know I'm truly sorry if I offended anyone. God bless ALL.

We all make mistakes or say things that people take the wrong way, we are here to support each other and when you need it we will all be here for you.

Let's forgive and forget,

I'm wanting to find out more about the gastric bypass revision? I had the bypass done 14 years ago. After a bad divorce and becoming an alcoholic I have gained almost all my weight back. I just want to know if I had the surgery, should I expect the same results in weight as I did when I first had the bypass?

I have no idea, as I am still only 2 yrs out from 1st surgery. However, I think a visit to a bariatric center could answer many of your ???s

Yes, some surgeons will do a second surgery. It depends on how long your original bypass section was, and there are a LOT of considerations they will go through with you before they do that. Alternatively, some will do a convert to duodenal switch. A second surgery is a big deal, and after having had a bypass, it is usually harder to get through the process to qualify.
