I'm having a hard time getting enough protein. The shakes I've tried are Unjury and Premier Protein. There is something about the smell. Does anyone have other suggestions?

Haven't had surgery yet but my nutritionist said I can use Slimfast or sf Carnation Instant Breakfast also if that helps.

I also just purchased the one from Walmart Muscletech premium gold in vanilla ice cream. I use unsweetened almond milk ( a lot less calories than milk) with ice and blend.. Yum.

Hey,

I actually use a protein shake from Herbalife. I did use as others on here use, the shakes from Walmart. But to be honest, my doc said that if you don't work out, you wind up gaining those calories as fat from the drinks. He told me to eat boiled eggs if I needed a jolt of protein.

But, I did buy a protein shake from Herbalife, and I went on the bariatric website and bought protein based soups and snacks and stuff to fill in for the rest of the day.

Peanuts or peanut butter is good, small amount though. Somewhere online there are lists of different protein rich foods if you feel that a shake is too much to do, or if you want to change things up. Like a shake in the AM and something else for lunch and dinner.

I agree to not use regular milk. Soy or even Silk Milk are a better option. Water just doesn't do anything. Makes the shake taste horrible. Slim fast and carnation was a big NO NO from my doc. He said it was too high in carbs I believe. We need low carbs, low calories, NO SUGAR if possible, and low or no fat with high protein.

Visit a nutritionist, Herbalife, or just do a search for Bariatric meal replacements or protein shakes. Everything on the nutrition facts should help you choose healthier options.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Be blessed,

Debbie

Isopure is what the dietician recommended at my food/nutrition class. It's clear like water, ready to drink, contains 40 grams of protein for 20 ounces of fluid. Zero carb, gluten free and 160 calories a bottle. It comes in a variety of flavors - I like coconut best. It's on the pricey side - if you're a GNC member it's $40 for a case of 12 bottles. If it looks like I am going to be short of the 69-80 grams of protein a day, I add in Isopure. Hope this helps!

I like the Syntrax shakes they taste good and mix easily; low cal and carb and have a variety of flavors. They can be found at a variety of stores, Amazon, Vitamin World, etc. I am in the final approval process for my surgery also; just waiting for insurance authorization. Good luck.

Ah yes.. I can smell protein powder in anything.. My Bari doc suggested powdered milk mixed into the milk.. There are some tubes of liquid protein that I tolerated best. New Whey Liquid Protein has 42 gr protein tube.. But it tastes best and was fruit flavors. There are a couple others.. I can't remember the names.. I'm going to try a new one with my coffee.. My favorite 38th the New Whey was grape in diet lemonade. Go to the health stores.. See if they have samples..

I would try Iso-pure Zero Carb protein powders they are very good and are not gritty as some can be. I use the unflavored for sauces and soups it helps greatly with getting enough protein. one more thing so many of us love coffee I use Iso-pure vanilla protein powder mix it with a little skim milk to dissolve and then add to my coffee it is wonderful and gives you more protein.

please check the sugar and carbs in all they suggest. I was instructed to use premier protein 30g protein 1gs 0carbs Plus Iso-pure zero carb protein powders pre surgical and post I still use them, but your best bet is to research everything and low carbs and sugar with high protein is the best thing for you.

You can get plain protien powder (unflavored) lace your soups and sauces with it. Oh and dips for the veggies.

I am getting mine from Emerson Labs, on line. I am getting straight up amino acids, it's protein already broken down, and it is only 2 teaspoons in a scoop. It virtually has no taste at all and therefore I don't get so filled up on whey which was making me sick.
