Hello new friends,
I am almost 6 weeks out. I had an open bypass due to excessive scar tissue . And then a few days later a leak and 3 more times into surgery to place stints. I was in the hospital for 18 days. I was on a nurishment feeding tube for most of that time. I'm home and struggling to get enough water. I can't stomach the taste and it makes me nauseous. I've already been to ER dangerously dehydrated. I'm learning some good tricks to hydrate myself enough, but boy this is hard. I have very little energy and wonder how much longer till I feel better?

Idk of my advice will help you. .. but I have a hard time with water now too. My dr. Said he hears this often, he's not sure why maybe there's something that water is missing. He mentioned trying Gatorade G2, it goes down a bit easier. I have also found a concentrate from bariatric choice that I enjoy adding to my water, it has some protein as well, but only make as much as you can drink in a sitting, as I found that sipping this throughout the day, kept me feeling full, hence not helping with actual protein intake. I will also share with you. .I have an issue with sugar substitutes...I don't like them. I have finally been able to tolerate one & I use that. Good luck with the intake! :-/ I'm post-op @ 6.5 wks, I dont have a lot of energy either...I can do every day stuff, but it's no marathon, and I get tired quickly & have to stop to regroup. But I was told that each week should get better, if not to call. I also have a hard time eating/drinking still...

I hope by now things are getting easier for you. But if not, I used MIO'S to flavor my water, and I bought little cups and made sugar free jello, with unflavored protein they only hold maybe 2 ozs. So it fit comfortably in my pouch and was soothing. You can also add unflavored protein to your MIO flavored watered. It isn't bulky so at least this way you are not consuming anything that is protein-less. Just little tricks I did. Because I also had a very hard keeping up with my water. And just remember, any protein is better than none. Your ultimate protein goal will come in time, you will get there. Just let your pouch heal and there will be more room. Your taste buds have changed so things will taste different. And in the end that's a good thing. Your body has been reset and is now craving clean and healthy food. Be gentle with yourself mentally and physically this is a fight worth fighting.

I sorry you've had such a hard time of it. Staying hydrated was tough for me even without complications. Keep sipping away. Your nausea will eventually pass. Your taste will keep changing for the better. Keep following your doctor's orders to the letter. He knows how to get you through this rough patch. Hang in there.

Hi Monica. I'm 4 weeks post op from gastric bypass. So sorry to hear of all of your issues. For my water, I put lemon juice in it when I get tired of plain water. I was also enjoying Propel and sugar free Powerade, but now the sugar substitute is making me sick to my stomach. I do still enjoy sugar free pop cycles and my doctor has said that one has 4 oz of fluid and is ok to have numerous ones during the day. Don't know if I helped, but hope I did.
