Pre surgery pre liquid diet eating a lot

Yes, be careful of those last meals. Everyone goes for one more time of there favorite food. But try not to have too many favorite foods. It seams like it will be a long time before you get to eat real food again, but there is going to be a lot of new things happening that the time will go by quickly. Start adding positive things in now instead of consecrating on the things you're going to give up. Start exercising it will help make your recovery easier. Congratulations on your surgery date!!!

Hi, I'm new to the group & having a gastric sleeve done in a couple of weeks. I've read so many of your posts, some very sad & scary, others very hopeful & full of promise. My start weight is 264 & current weight 259. Goal weight with the sleeve is 180. I chose that weight because they said not to chose your dream weight or your VERY good weight. So 180 lbs is an acceptable weight but in my heart I wanted to get down to 160 pounds. I was also told (this is by the Bariatric staff) that once I hit my very acceptable weight, I would NOT lose any more, even with increased, continual exercise. So, although I've not had the sleeve yet, Om already kind of sad about this 180 vs. 160 lb weight goal.
Any specific comments on this subject?
Thanks and I'm so very glad I found this forum! God Bless ❤️

I'm surprised that those people aren't encouraging. No one can tell you what exact number you will end up weighing. I don't know about you but I'm the only one that gets to decide exactly what weight I'm comfortable with. Just like everyone on here had that moment when they decided they wanted to try having surgery to lose weight. I have just recently had the sleeve surgery but it's up to me what weight I will get to. I have seen some amazing stories and I plan on being one of them.

The dietician at my doctor's office asked me what my goal weight was after surgery. When I told her 150 lbs., she said there was no reason I couldn't reach it. No one has ever said that I couldn't go below my goal weight, if I desire to. Everyone at the office is very encouraging and helpful.

I have heard that some docs say that, I think some has to do with losing so much weight may become addictive to some, and they will keep going. Plus maybe if you reach that 180 mark it could take a bit to level out and you will lose more weight as you try to level it out... 180 could just be the time to start trying to find that leveling point... Its just a guess I have my bypass tomorrow... Good luck

My goal weight is 135, the nutritionist said I could do it, the Dr said 155, so no one really knows until it happens

When I had my 1 month appt. today, I asked the nurse/practitioner if I could lose more than what my goal weight is. She said there is no reason I can't go lower. It's all up to me and how I eat. I will be thrilled to be 150. I haven't been that small in 40 years, at least. I hope to be there by this time next year. Already lost 37 in 6 weeks so I can't complain at all. My views on eating has changed a lot, as well. I don't go looking for something to munch on, just coz I am in the kitchen. It's all in the mindset.

Hi my surgery is on March 6th. I am going to start my liquid diet on Feb 20th. Any body eats more before the pre op liquid diet?
Hi, my surgery is on 3/22/17 and I'm in the same boat of eating-to-say-goodbye to foods sort of thing. It's crazy. I'm actually looking forward to the pre-surgery liquid diet to stop the craziness.

Everybody has a special meal to say goodbye to before surgery, but try to keep the size small and not a lot of them. It's really not goodbye forever even though it feels that way sometimes. The liquid diet before the surgery is hard but it's not forever. I lost a lot on the liquid diet before surgery. That gave me a good boost.

I just saw my nutritionist today and she said forget about the numbers and think about the other elements - increased strength, lessening of medicines, more energy. I can accept that but I am still looking at the numbers and setting a goal range, it gives me something to strive for. I've met several folks that have met there weight goal, 2 within 1 year, and the other person within 2 years. It's all possible. Don't let anyone discourage you. I'm waiting for my sleeve surgery in March, so cheers to us both!

New on here...went out for my fairwell to food last meal this past weekend, and surprisingly did well. I thought I would want to eat my favorite PASTA and eat lots of it, but the more I looked at the menu, my eyes just kept slipping over to the healthier grilled chicken and fish options. My eyes watered enough that I had to use the napkin to dry them. My "last meal" ended up being a grilled chicken with avocado sauce and a side of plain sweet potato that was cut into strips of linguine (Houlihans restaurant). This was not what I envisioned myself getting, but I was happy with it, it tasted very good, and my hunger was satisfied with this meal. I am 1 week away from the sleeve, and today I started my clear liquid diet. I did have a huge setback...today I learned that even though 6 months ago my insureance said I was good to go, they are now saying that I will not be covered for this procedure...I have 1 week to decide if I will go through the procedure at my own expense, or back out and try to keep going the way I am, which will be difficult as after a time I always reverted back to food. The Dr. I have is great and the staff are wonderful and supportive. Guess the insurance will by my second major hurdle to overcome (first being the 6 month journey), of what I assume will be many hurdles along this path. Anyone else have similar problem with insurance, anyone care to tell me about what the cost will be based on their experience (the cost before insurance covered it)??

Why won't insurance cover it now? It took my insurance company over a year to approve my surgery. I had to do a 6 month doctor supervised diet, plus see a cardiologist for several tests and went for a pulmonary function test, among other things. I thought I was never going to get through all of it. So far, I haven't had to pay anything but my office visit copay. I have no idea what the cost is. I hope you can get through the insurance hurdle.

OMG, I would fight the insurance co on this one, , have the Dr send it in again with all the issues you have and call the insurance agency and talk to someone higher ups and if that doesn't work then talk to their boss

I feel so bad for you. I hope this all works out for you. At this time, I believe my insurance will pay for my surgery, but from various sources, it looks like surgery will cost approximately $11,000 to $15,000. I heard it is cheaper in Mexico and some medical colleges could offer it for free if you volunteer to be a "teaching" patient for their classes, meaning they instruct as they do the operation. Both of these 2 suggestions may be terrifying but are valid options. I don't have any contact info for these options but perhaps other do. I wish you all the best on this, sincerely.

I still plan on moving forward, the hospital has been great, and offer a 0% financing if needed and will work with me on the payments. I have gone through all the steps needed by the Doctor and the insurance, 6 months of: diet, food and nutrition classes twice a week, exercise classes twice a week with a group, support groups, heart testing, psychiatrist, visit with the dietitian once a month, and the worst one - all those blood viles that had to be filled, almost passed out on that one...lol, they stopped for 10 minutes to get me back to color, then finished off the last several tubes. Sad thing is, when I called my insurance, they said I was covered, and the Dr. office called as well to make sure all was covered and that we were in line with their requirements, now a week before surgery, they called to inform of the upcoming procedure and they said we are not covered, so I am fighting it with them...but hey, they are big insurance, they won't care even if they would admit that they said they would cover it. My Dr. office is calling and arguing with them as well. It is good to be on here and read the stories of people, and their struggles...I have a good attitude moving into this last step regardless of this hurdle, and though different options may be cheaper, I wouldn't want to go with anyone other than the Dr. and staff who have gotten me this far.

I couldn't go through that "eat crazy" phase that I hear about a lot...my Dr. had an appointment for me 4 weeks before, 3 weeks before, then my liquid diet started a week before, and I had to weigh in each time I went there and wasn't allowed to put on a single pound. If you stick to the diet, it gets easier to avoid the food, the protein shakes really seem to help curb the appetite.
