Newbie

Hello Everyone.. I am new. Just had gastric bypass on monday the 17th. I am definitely looking for some support with this.
Hey Mae Mae,

You're doing great. I have yet to have my surgery date set. I am on a roller coaster with the whole thing. I know it must've been a scary yet exciting decision. Keep on keeping on.

When do you think you will get a date?

Sometime next month. I will meet the whole team in May. So I'm thinking I'll get the phone call after those meetings.

Hi! I just had gastric bypass on the 10th. Let me tell you, I am so sick of the protein shakes! My doctor recommends I only use their specific brand for the first two weeks. Well, Thursday I started vomiting each time cuz I'm so sick of the same ones. I've have to mix it up or I'm never gonna make it to my two-week post-op appt. I cannot wait to try some food :)

Hi Mae Mae. I'm new too, my doctor wants to do my surgery in July. I'm so excited and nervous. You'll do fine. Just have some faith in yourself.

Amber C., just a curiosity but what kind of protein shake are you drinking? My dietitian suggested Primer Protein and I really don't like it. I think it's nasty. I found that at GNC the Gold Standard protein powder is really good. But that's my opinion. However, they do have lots of flavors. Just a thought.

Hello MaeMae,
Congratulations. I have not yet had my surgery. I'm scheduled for the sleeve on May 15th. I'm also new to the site and looking forward to meeting people who are on a similar journey as my own.
Thank you for sharing and please keep us posted.

Hi MaeMae,
Congrats on having your surgery! and already feeling up to reaching out! How are you feeling overall with this new journey? Has your drinking improved? I'm hoping to be approved, and I have a tenative date of May 2/17, so i'm on pins and needles waiting to hear!. What made you decide to do this ?

Hi Amber, I LOVE the muscle milk strawberry & cream shake , and the premier protein chocolate. I find I have to jump around to get the taste that agrees with me. I actually switched programs because of one place wanting their patients to purchase $300 of 'their' product to use before and after surgery. I am on a blog of theirs, and most of the patients only used 1/4 of the product and were giving it away. What a waste of money. So I went to a different program which did not require that, you could pick your own, as long as it had a good protein in it, and was low carb/cal. How much weight have you lost? I was wondering how often they tell you to weigh yourself ? Is it once a week or less? Good Luck :) Cheryl

As you know, I had my surgery a day after you did. I too got sick of drinking the same protein shakes. I found a shake that tastes really good and it has 42 grams of protein a bottle. The name of the shake is Core Power. It is expensive, about $40 for 12 pack but it tastes good.

I am using Celebrate brand protein shakes as that's what's used at my doctor's office. After the first two weeks I can use any brand, but it's been a long two weeks!

Yup, I'm in one of those that require you to use their brand for the first two weeks after surgery. I've done good for the most part, but the last couple of days have been miserable lol. I have no problem throwing away the last little bit of unused shake either! I've lost about 10 pounds since surgery, totalling about 40 pounds since I've started my journey in January. They haven't told me how often I should weigh myself, but I do every morning just because I'm nosey. I would say once a week is plenty.

I actually called my doctor on Friday begging to eat some real food because of the vomiting lol. They wouldn't let me, but did assure me I'd never have to drink these shakes again after the post-op appt. I'm just trying to make it the next couple of days however I can, cheapest way possible lol.

My post-op appointment is on Tuesday, I hope to get off this liquid diet then. I got my fingers crossed, lol! When is your appointment?

Wow, my doctor doesn't require me to use a certain brand so I'm feeling lucky. I hope you can make it through your two weeks. Like I said Gold Standard is pretty good.
