When to tell your family?

I have told only a few family members about my surgery. Should I tell the rest or wait till it's over?

I was scared to tell my family as some of them had very strong feelings against the surgery due to the risks. I decided to tell them though as I wanted to be able to talk to them about it before the surgery just in case something went wrong. It was stupid that there was any worry as I had had a hysterectomy and hernia surgery the same year that were just as dangerous, but because of them and their ancient beliefs, they had me worried sick. They played hard ball with me and tried to convince me not to have the surgery, but now, 10 months after surgery, they are some of my biggest supporters. So, long story short, if your family members will be supportive, tell them. If they won’t be, only tell them if they are immediate family.
