Hi Everyone,

I am currently one week post op and I am struggling. I want to eat food so bad it’s affecting me and I cannot decipher whether it’s a mental thing or am I actually hungry. I fight everyday not to order food. But I am trying to hold strong because I know it might affect my progress any recommendations?

Hi Mia,

I so feel for you. I‘ve not had my surgery just yet, but I anticipate this being a problem for me, as well. The only advice I can give at the moment is on the mental side:

I always feel better mentally when spending time with people I love, so you could invite a close friend or family member over to support you in your recovery. Or even having a nice phone call with a loved one might make you feel better.

Journaling isn‘t for everyone, but it can really help to write down your feelings and anxieties - just try to create some separation of the feelings from you, the person. It can help you process them with a calmer state of mind.

Deep breathing and guided meditation can also be really helpful. There‘s a ton of options on YouTube.

I have heard and read that the “head hunger” is a really common struggle, so also just know that you are not alone! I hope it gets better for you soon

It is a hard transition and kudos to you for not caving. Try to make sure you are getting enough protein with your shakes and enough water. They really help. It can also help to split your shakes into more times you drink it.

For you not having surgery yet, I strongly suggest sticking to the 2 week diet before your surgery. Some people say you don't have to but it really makes a difference because it helps train your body
