***3 YRS OUT & NEEDING HELP***

I have gone up 10 lbs over the yrs after surgery and back down to my normal weight but right now I’m back up for the 2nd time and I’ve got myself into some bad habits. My BIGGEST mistake was picking up a soda for the 1st time in 3 yrs and now I’m hooked. It’s so bad for us who have had the sleeve or probably any type of weight loss surgery. Plus it’s calories I don’t need since I already drink coffee with creamer. Please don’t suggest switching to a zero calorie soda cause those are just yuck to me lol. I’m drinking 1 a day but sometimes 2. The other problem is I have completely gone off the rails with my plate supposed to be making up 70% of protein. It’s minimal meat and mainly carbs. My migraines have returned with a vengeance. After I initially lost all the weight they went completely away, but now that my eating habits are so bad they are back. I was even hospitalized for three days with infusions because of them. I’m on so many medications for my migraines it’s insane. My blood work is all good including all the female hormonal testing they did.. Lipid panel looked great, no high cholesterol or anything like that (surprisingly). I’ve always done great with my vitamins up until I started getting bad migraines and then I just totally started slacking off cause I was more focused on all the other meds to control the pain in my head. However, I’ve been back on track with them so I can cross that issue out. Has anyone else slacked and it cost them? What did you do to get back on track? My doctor told me to expect to gain back 20% of my weight loss and he still considers that a success but I don’t want to gain that weight back. I went from 260lbs to 180lbs. I purposely stopped my weight loss at that point because it was scary how fast I lost it, plus I felt great at that weight.

hi Lesa Marie,

the most helpful thing for me is raising my awareness by writing everything i eat in a food journal. i took it a step further by writing down what i PLAN to eat. i put a box in front of each item i list, then check each one as i go.

when the boxes are checked, i'm done eating for the day. this can be a real drag if i finish before dinner! so i have an incentive to "budget" what i eat. but yeah, i've definitely slipped up.

you're onto something important with the soda. big props for knowing it's a trigger food. obviously the only solution is to cut back or just stop.

i've found that maintaining target weight reduces cravings significantly.

i hope you know how incredible you are for being on this journey. tell yourself that and don't let your "fat brain" beat your true self up.

YOU ARE AMAZING!

Omg Hi Diane! You might not remember me but you were always so helpful and kind when I first came on almost 3 yrs ago. How are you? I really appreciate all of your responses and the wisdom/knowledge behind them. I was already considering going back to the food diary because I KNOW that I’ll be less likely to eat “bad” lol. I’ll focus more on my protein this way. The sodas just have to stop, I’m gonna have to just do it. I’ll do this for about a week and get back with you. Pray for me!

You can totally do this!! The soda is a hard one, but once you break the habit again it will get easier.
I went two days without it and then just got more …. On the plus side, my weight has went down about 4lbs (have no idea how) so I’m about 8lbs off of where I need to be. We are about to start ttc baby #4 and so my diet HAS to straighten up. The caffeine helps my migraines but that’s one of the things I will need to let go of for sure once I become pregnant. Thanks for the reply, it definitely isn’t easy!

You're very welcome! 2 days was an incredible start! You can absolutely loose those 8 lbs. Try not to focus too hard on that number though. I know easier said than done. Good luck on your journey for baby 4!

Oh my goodness, I absolutely love this… thank you for sharing! I’m so happy for you that you have found some things that work and that you also realize you are an emotional eater (this is me as well). You’re doing great and I hope you meet your goal but most importantly make sure you are happy within.
I’ve got so much work to do, I’ve just got to put it into play now :)

This is actually quite sad to me because when I first came on this sight nearly 4 yrs ago it was doing great. There were no bots/trolls posting and it was extremely active but that’s not the case anymore. This is unfortunately the only support/community I have. This was suggested to me years ago when I had my bariatric surgery and it has been wonderful. Thank you for the kind words, I’m definitely going to try my hardest even to make the smallest of changes. There might not be many people on here anymore but I’d love to keep in touch :)

That sounds good to me too.I have followed along on a you tube site for recipes. Its called The Keto Twins. They have together lost over a hundred 20 lbs and they experiment with recipes to make them low carb. They use alot of cottage cheese and almond flour for their recipes.I dont use much cheese though because it is a trigger food with me.I also dont have ice cream in my apt.or Id eat it in one sitting.lol Ive adopted things that I goto when Im stressed.Take a shower, work on sewing projects especially hand sewn ones. The dieticians say that foods that are very processed we crave the most. Its like getting a high from them and then it is calling us for more.I have 10 grandkids and 6 great grandchildren.I went onlines earching for support groups online yesterday.I found places like big hospitals having virtual support groups. One is Mayo clinic,it also looked like Michigan University has one with several virtual groups a month.I do know Overeaters anonyamous has virtual groups too.Its not the same except the overeating part.Ill see what else I can find for us.I got a stationary bike I use when I needed to increase my metabolism.I was peddling it up to 2 hrs a day and had a steady decrease in wt.I havent seen onederland since highschool.I see in your picture you have a partner or husband.I bet its hard making food for 2 people. My daily journal helps me keep on track even though on my slip days I dont want to write things down.lolHave a great day.:)

Hi dianseattle, this is Dori.I see you and another person on here posting.Although I was discouraged not to find much on this site,we can always encourage the others on this site. Its important to me to have support too.Not easy to find it.I find keeping a journal is so good for me.It takes time but helps keep me in check.lol I had a diet pepsi habit.I slowly cut it down to half a one every few days.Slow and steady.Ive followed The Keto Twins on youtube for good recipes that are low carb and high protein.I eat alot of low carb veggies, cucumbers, zuccinni, mushrooms, tomatoes with lean meat.I had a problem with finding low carb snacks so I had to find a few to have on hand,I eat celery stalks with creamcheese or on matza crackers.Cucumbers anytime.I do find that using diet sweetners trigger me to crave foods later in the day.I wait to eat if I can til later in the morning.Ive been using a mocha coffee but I need to stop it because I think the caffeine stimulates my appetite too.How have you been doing?

Lesa Marie,I have heard that putting your feet in very warm water when you have a migraine helps get rid of them.My mother and brother had them also. She would take an aspirin and drink a cup of coffee to help them.Im sure its hard when you get a migrane to manage anything but that.I hope they subside...
