    Packing for hospital

The hospital doesn't want to be held liable if your machine malfunctions. When my mom had heart surgery, they had to have someone from the hospital inspect it before she could use it.

Drinking Liquids, burping and sippy cups

I have several of the Contigo travel cups, just not the ones with the straw. I love that they don't spill. I keep one at work and refill it throughout the day. I liked mine so much I bought the 2-pair set at Costco for my parents for Christmas (good thing they aren't on this site - haha).

    Life after surgery

I hope thinks have improved for you. Thanks for posting. Yes, we all have ups and downs. Last year was horrible for me, starting with moving last December (because my roommate/son decided to move out) to losing my car. I can say that I am in an upswing and that is what convinced me to have...

    Why do people do this?

I hope it has improved for you - the unwelcome comments. It was one of the reasons I waited to tell my own mother. I will say she surprised me with two positive remarks, but of course she ended with "you know this doesn't work for everyone". My thought was "they may just not want it as badly...

    immunine protein drink?

I've never heard of it. But I am also suspicious of offices that try to upsell you for their products. I left my last primary care physician for that very reason. After going into an appointment, paying my co-pay, they would try to see me their vitamins, detox treatment, etc. They had opened...

    Packing for hospital

I had my pre-op appointment today and we went over all the meds. I was told to stop meds and vitamins 7 days prior to surgery date. Expect, I also have albuterol for asthma, I specifically asked about that one and she said if I needed it, use it - even the day of surgery. And bring nothing...

9 Days and a wake till surgery

I already started getting reading for Christmas. I put my tree up yesterday. I wanted to make sure I get to enjoy for a long time. (last year I missed Christmas due to moving). I have an appointment to get my hair done tomorrow, right before my pre-op physical - a bit of a "ME' day. I found...

    Packing for hospital

Hello fellow Californian! I am also going through Kaiser. I will say one thing for them, with everything in house, I think it speeds up the process. I had my blood work and xray today. Already got an email with the lab results.

    Packing for hospital

Just tonight I picked up a little travel kit at Target (in that section with all the small sizes). It has lotion, tooth paste, tooth brush, deodorant and a few other things. It is designed for airlines, but will work. A few years ago I was in the hospital for a hysterectomy. I really wish I...

Tenative Surgery Date - Dec 9

Confirmed surgery Date - Dec 9 I bought some Centrum Chewables and they weren't bad. I have taken care of pre-registration. And I finally decided to tell my Mom and Dad. I was anticipating a negative reaction, but surprisingly my mom had two positive and only one negative comment (I think...

12 days and a wake up.. Reality hit home today.

I am fortunate that the hospital is only about 5-6 miles away and I've been able to do some of the appointments at the offices only 2 blocks from my work. I was even able to run over for my "goal" weigh in on my break.

    Vitamins

You are right about "doctor Preference". My list of vitamins says specifially to avoid Centrum Liquid and children's vitamins. I've already been doing the sublinugal B-12. My vitamin C is already chewable and I can't start taking that for a few weeks after surgery anyway. The D and B1 are a...

    Vitamins

I start my pre-op diet on 11/25. Also, I was getting to the point where I need to start refilling some of my vitamins. (At least it isn't all at once like in the beginning). I thought I'd try grinding the vitamins to see how that'd work. IT DID NOT!!!! I may need to research some of...

12 days and a wake up.. Reality hit home today.

I am about 2 weeks behind you and my phone is staying pretty busy too. I start my two week liquid diet the Monday before Thanksgiving and am actually glad - no cheating. I have to start with all the lab work and my first pre-op appt is this coming Monday. I think it will be a whirl wind. Oh...

Tenative Surgery Date - Dec 9

Have to ask about the Dial soap. That's the first time I've seen mention of soap. Were you given special instructions on soap? I have my son and his girlfriend planning to stay over the first few days. Good news, they only live about 4 miles away and the hospital is less than a mile from their...

    Surgery date...

I am on a pretty big high myself. I am more excited than nervous. Let's hope for a very speedy November. ;)

Tenative Surgery Date - Dec 9

I think I have mentally prepared because I've taken care of Christmas shopping for my Granddaughter. I have my protein drinks and they taste pretty good. I took advantage of the weekend to try to them as breakfast since my hours get so out of wack on the weekend. I've let my HR department...

Tenative Surgery Date - Dec 9

The surgery scheduler was out today so not official, but I've cleared all the hurdles. Tentative date is Dec 9. I'll know for sure tomorrow afternoon. I have extra incentive to get it done before the end of they year. Our insurance changes on January 1 and it will cost more in January.

    Surgery Dec 11th

How exciting for both of you. Think about how much you have to be thankful for on Thanksgiving. Maybe it will make it easier to know you can't have anything, rather than be tempted. Good luck.

Was anyone else really nervous about having surgery?

My dietician said I could take my vitamins in the time before meals (I am allowed to drink up to 10 minutes before a meal). It took some getting used to, not drinking with meals. I used to drink 3-4 glasses just with a meal, but I've managed. Also, I can have a cup of milk with breakfast and...
