Please talk to the professionals at your appts coming up about your concerns. I think your fear of the unknown has you grasping at unrealistic ideas. I am having my surgery done at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and my surgeon informed me there will be no drains.
In either surgery, sleeve or...
I never had to go on the liquid diet and my surgery is May 4th. As for the diabetic meds, I guess I cant say, although I know I couldnt go off of them since I am insulin dependent, in fact I wear an insulin pump. I had most of my pancreas removed about 6yrs ago because of a tumor that left me...
I am glad to hear that someone finally listened to your cry for help hun. When reading your posts I felt so bad for you, but now you know there was a reason, even though it took a few days for the doc to listen to you. Even though you are in the hospital....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Keep track of your calories and fluid intake on http://www.myfitnesspal.com. You enter what you have "eaten", including scoops of protein and it will give you a daily total.
:p I have been experimenting with the protein shots....To me the best tasting is the IDS New Whey Liquid Protein shots. I made some in sugar free jello today, using the grape liquid protein as part of the cold water in Strawberry sugar free jello. It is yummy and I cant tell it has the protein...
I also am not able to use Morphine. My surgeon recommended I have an Epidural placed for the first 3 days. I am interested to see how well it works. Eleven more days till surgery!
:p I happen to stop by the Dollar Tree today and found that they had Xtra Strenght Gas-x and its generic counterpart on the shelves. For a dollar a piece I stocked up!
Also, someone at work who is also a Gastric Bypass "survivor" told me about a website she used and still uses to keep track...
Thanks Tram, we have no surgery groups that I know of, but I plan on drilling my doctor before I go home. I have a notebook with questions I have, been writing them down as I think of them.
When I saw my surgeon on April 16 he told me he wanted me to try for at least 80gms a day of protein. Make sure when you are in the hospital you ask for a dietician/nutritionist consult before you leave, thats my plan. I hope all goes well for you!
Thank you Pat for the great info! I did purchase a Ninja food processor, comes with 3 different sizes of containers. I made some bean soup earlier this week, blended it and put it in the freezer for after surgery. I may have to try some of the cream soups, put some unflavored protein powder in...
Pat is right about the calories! As for the Y, if I worked out for an hour at this point I would probably need an ambulance....I love jello, so after surgery I am going to make some with some unflavored protein powder to see if I like it.
Hi YankeeGirl and welcome! My surgery day is May 4th, so we are neck and neck. In Minnesota, as far as I know, there are no seminars or meetings before hand, just visits with different professionals throughout the process. I also don't have to do the liquid diet before hand either. I am having...
The blues after surgery is normal, you just need to kick their butt. My doctor wants me to take all chewable vitamins and supplements after surgery, says I will not feel full taking them that way. Get some unflavored protein powder and mix it with cream of wheat, or even jello. Have you tried...
