2 dats post op

I am 2 days post op. I'm home and trying to move and walk to get the gas out. But what surprises me is the ongoing nausea. I'm taking a dissolvable pill to counteract the nausea but it still comes in waves. I'm fighting just to sip water. How long does this usually last? Any tips?

Ask your surgeon or doctor to prescribe a different anti-nausea medication. That would probably help the most. Make sure you are taking your time to sip water and protein drinks, but do try as best as you can to stay hydrated or you'll be making a return trip to the hospital. I didn't have much nausea after surgery, but my medication definitely helped for a couple days. It is a little different for everyone. I only get nauseous now (3 weeks post-op) if I eat too fast.

The other thing you can do is ask for a Scopolamine patch, which lasts for three days. They put one on me at the hospital and gave me other anti-nausea meds as well.
This reminded me that I was going to specifically ask for the patch because I’ve had it in the past post op, and it really helped me a lot. I needed it after my second c section because after my first I threw up- a lot- but they also had to use gas on me rather than just anesthesia.

I received the patch a day before the surgery so it's supposed to last 3 days so probably lost its effectiveness by now so I may need another one. My doc prescribed an anti-nausea med but I can only take it every 8 hours. But thanks for the tip. I will call my doctor to see if I can get something stronger. Thank you.

There are different meds out there, not necessarily stronger but just more effective for you. Some that I've had over the years don't do anything for me. I get really nauseous with narcotics, so they've always been paired with anti-emetics. Some of them worked for me, some of them didn't. Sometimes it pays dividends to ask for something different.
