4 days post surgery

I had my bypass surgery on Wednesday January 20th. i am having a little pain on the left side of my abdomen when I walk. I also have not moved my bowels lots of gas but no movement. I have been drinking maralax everyday and today am trying Metamuci. Not sure how long I should wait until talking with the doctor? I also am having trouble getting a full shake in everyday. During the surgery I had 2 hernia repairs could this be what is causing the pain?

Welcome to the other side! Don’t worry too much about not having a BM. You aren’t taking in enough to have much. Passing gas is good. I had pain on my left middle side as well since that’s where the old stomach is and healing. All the muscles will take time to heal from the deep incisions they made, so that could be part of it as well as the surgery has could still be trying to escape. Keep trying on the shakes, sipping every few minutes. It’s hard in the beginning, but it’ll get easier.

Welcome Tracie! If you are concerned about how you are feeling, there is no harm in calling your doctor's office to voice those concerns. Better to give you reassurance so you are not spending your healing energy on worrying. Are you getting some walking in? Even if it is only walking around inside your house and not a formal walk, it's important to help that gas come out. Each day you will be feeling a little better and able to get more of that protein in.

Yes I am walking around the house a lot. I did speak with the doctor on Saturday but was not in much pain in the morning but more in the evening. I know he said I need to contact the nutritionist this week and also contact my primary doctor to have a check up. I have my first follow up with the surgeon on February 4th. But will call and find out more from him.. I just dont remember my husband being uncomfortable. He had a sleeve done in July
