6 Weeks Post Op / Suggestions

Hi All,

So I am 6 weeks post op RNY and 4 weeks post op hernia. My appetite is zero and taking in fluids is difficult. Almost everything I try to drink hits my stomach like a pebble in a lake and I can feel it. I have tried different beverages and different temperatures and right now the only thing I can tolerate daily is hot lemon tea. Even sugar free beverages taste too sweet. Any suggestions on that?

Also - my appetite is terrible and it is very hard for me to eat when I am not hungry so scheduling meals is hard for me.

I know most experiences are different so that is why I am hoping someone has had these same experiences and has some suggestions for me.

Thanks,

I'm sorry you're having issues. It can be hard to eat and drink after surgery. Your hunger hormones are on pause, and your stomach has been basically been amputated and what's left is still healing.

The thing is you have to eat/drink to survive. So schedule those meals and eat an ounce or so. Sip, sip and sip some more all day long. As long as its not causing you actual pain, you have to work through it. It does get easier to tolerate .. Everything lol Your name says it all .. unfortunately. It is NOT easy. But you have to do it anyway.

I 'ate' soups for most meals and usually only had one solid food a day, when I was at your stage. They were just easier to digest. And please make sure you are taking all of your vitamins!! Hang in there. It does get easier

I had a rough time from 3-5 weeks post op bypass with gallbladder removal. I could not eat or drink anything , I was so nauseous. My nutritionist suggested that I try diet cranberry juice and Outshine no sugar added popsicles and to be sure I was taking prilosec daily. Within 4 days I was much better and eating low sugar oatmeal and protein drinks. I'm 4 months post op now and things are MUCH easier. I don't have hunger still and only eating 550-600 calories a day, but have so much energy and have lost 87 lbs. Good luck and take one day at a time!!
