I am excited about having THE date! This has been quit a journey to get this far.
But....Started my liquid diet this last Thursday....having a problems with it even though I am following it perfectly. I've had stomach cramps and diarrhea--pretty bad....Has anyone else had this problem?

I spoke with the dietitian (who is part of my surgeon's group) who suggested I go on a partial pre-op--2 shakes, 2 protein bars and 4 oz high quality protein with a salad at night for 2 days to ease into it. Not sure it's working as every time I have a shake I develop cramps and diarrhea.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. The only thing I can think of is lactose intolerance. This can cause stomach cramps and diarrhea big time!!! Try taking lactaze enzyme to see if it helps. You can buy it at any drug store or WalMart over the counter. Any drastic change in diet can also cause the symptoms you are having but it should calm down in a few days. I am lactose intolerant so I had problems with the shakes but the lactaze eased that up a lot. I was also allowed to have hot cereals made with milk. Ask if you can have this as it may help calm down your stomach. I wasn't allowed any raw veggies but could have tomato juice and applesauce so I'm surprised you can have salad.

Make sure to come back here to let us know how you are doing.

Hey thanks Pat!

I have problems with lactose intolerance in the past....my dietitian did not ask about it and I did not think about it either...good advice' I will try.

Re: the raw veggies--I am allowed a salad with the evening shake that consists of lettuce, peppers, carrots, cucumbers and celery. Makes a huge difference in following the rest of the diet. ;)
