Bariatric Diet

Hello,
I just joined and I have a question. I am in a nursing home and a few months back I started the Bariatric Program. I am,also, on SSDI. I was told by the Dietician at the nursing home I might have to pay for some of the items on the Bariatric menu selection. So here is my question: Can they do that?
I was under the impression nursing homes had to follow a residents diet plan. It isn't exotic just swapping one set of ordinary food items with another set. I have to talk with the Administrator and the Kitchen Manager. That is the next step.
I
Thanks,

Chris

Also talk to the social worker at your facility. The only thing you might have to pay for would be snacks. A bariatric diet is similar to a diabetic diet. Why couldn't they modify that? I worked in a nursing home. They had to adapt the menu for diabetics, I don't know why they can't do it for you. The only thing they may not pay for is artificial sweeteners or something like that. If you're the only one using it they may make you pay for it. Talk to the social worker. She may know a program that helps pay for those things.
