Barix clinic?

Hello I have an appointment at my local hospital for a consultation and I also have one scheduled at the Barix clinic.

i am wondering if anyone has experience with the Barix clinic and their opinions on it. It sounds as if I can get the surgery sooner at the Barix clinic than if I go with my local hospital. I will be self pay since my insurance is horrible. The hold up at my local hospital system is that the hospital only allows to WLS a week. So I am looking at four months and on top of that I hear they push the sleeve HARD. I am not interested in the sleeve because my brother had issues with it and we have similar issues with GERD. I am literally only interested in RNY for myself.

I agree with Diane, the clinic sounds like a scam. Who is they pushing the sleeve? According to my bariatric center, RNY is recommended for patients with Gerd/acid reflux. This is a very challenging life choice, it is not an easy fix. It involves making better food choices, everyday for the rest of your life. Portion control is another part of the food choices. think of a bowl of cereal, most of the time you pour til the bowl is filled…..but the box recommends 1 cup for a serving. The standard bowl you have used is a 20 oz bowl. So instead of one cup you have poured 2 servings with extra into that bowl. That is what making yourself accountable is for and how teaching you how much you are eating in one meal. Most of us had steps to go through before surgery and it was/is a waiting period, this gives you time to adjust your thinking and planning how these changes are going to be addressed with overcoming challenges along the way. I don’t know how many have backup plans in place in case of a bad eating choice and how to deal with it. Holidays are very overwhelming with temptation, what are your options? It makes a big difference In the future. Be safe.
 
The Barix clinic has been around for at least the last twenty years and has awards for being the safest place around. My
Local hospital has been doing these surgeries for the last decade, maybe less. My local hospital is known for pushing the sleeve.

my question was about any opinions on the Barix clinic. I do NOT take this surgery lightly at all. I have been researching this surgery in and off for more than 15 years and have done extensive research on the matter in recent months. I would never flippantly do something so severe to my body without being armed with a lot of thought and knowledge. I have known over ten people that have had different WLS types and they all have different experiences for the most part. Four of them were pushed into the sleeve at our local hospital. So I have some knowledge of the local hospital as well both from word of mouth and personal research. I only wanted opinions on the Barix clinic.

Interestingly, of all the places I ask questions this is the one I thought would be the best place for intellectual discourse on the matter. It doesn’t seem to be the welcoming place I thought it was. Thank you to all that have been friendly and helpful, to the rest, go get a life.
 
My suggestion is to make an appointment at Barix and see how it goes. You will get a good feel of the place once you sit in their offices. Just follow your instincts. I went to clinic #1 and didn’t like the staff, the dietician, the paid parking, and the long drive with traffic. I went to clinic #2 and it was a perfect fit for me. Totally different from the first clinic. So go check it out and see for yourself.

My personal doctor did not recommend my WLS clinic. He has no clue about the bariatric clinics in my area. He couldn’t even recommend a good therapist. He said “I don’t know any of the therapists. They work in a different building.”

Oh my gosh! My family doctor really wants me to get the sleeve but would support any choice I make. He of course is employed by my local hospital so that is the one he recommends. He has watched me struggle for years with my weight and my health and knows it is time to get serious (he recommended it years ago, to be honest).
