Calcium level after Total thyrodectomy followed by gsstric bypass

I did total thyrodectomy 7 months ago because of papillary carcinoma and till now I need 8 tablets of 500 mg calcium to keep it normal level
Is gastric bypass is a problem to be done after total thyrodectomy as it decrease the absorption of calcium

This is a tough one. I would talk to my primary doc and the gastric surgical doc to get multiple opinions on the calcium absorption in your situation. Bypass patients are on calcium supplements already because of low absorption after bypass. You would probably need an extra high dose. And make sure you take the right kind of calcium (calcium citrate for bypass) and don't take it with iron. Good luck!

100% Agreed, this is a question for all your collective physicians to discuss with you. Good luck, I hope that you are still a candidate for surgery, it helps so many of us!
