Checking In

Hi all. It’s been a few months since I checked in. I just had my surgery this past Thursday, the 16th (VSG). I am back home and working on recovery. So far, I can’t say I’m having much fun. LOL. I’m trying to get as much walking as I can and the keeping up on fluids. The most challenging thing is getting up and then sitting back down in my chair. Fingers cross that healing will progress quickly.

Glad to hear that you've had your surgery and are recuperating. From what I've read about others experiences, every day you'll start feeling better. You've had surgery and need to take time to be 100% again. Just thinking would it help to have a pillow against your stomach and hold it while you get up and down. Take care and feel better.

Good afternoon WazzuCoug, I just had GS done July 9th. I luckily didn't have the getting up and down out of the chair problem but trying to keep fluid going was. Swallowing water was really hard, switch to crystal light much easier. I am now 9 days out and have to say moving around and walking is much easier. I hope you start to feel better.

I had surgery 7/16, too! So we are going through the same things. I am getting less sore as the days go on. Walking more, doing a few chores. I still find it hard to bend over and get out of bed. I just found out yesterday, the incision glue is making me itchy. I avoided the shower until day 4, yesterday and I still rely on my pain medicine every 6 to 8 hours. I ordered a Clear Protein Shake which should get here today so I can take that with my multivitamin. I also, have not experienced nausea, so I think I'm doing okay.

maybe a belly binder would help with getting up and down

It sounds like you are doing pretty well! I have some itchy areas around the incisions as well, but it is tolerable. I’m surprised about how much less painful I am today compared to just two days ago. I walked a mile today and things felt good. The only time I get significant pain is if I cough. The liquids are going to get old, but I’m sticking to the plan and not trying to rush. Good luck with your journey!!
