I’m almost a month post-op from having the bypass. I had to be given blood after surgery and was started on an iron supplement at my 2 week post op appointment. I was going regularly until I started the iron. Any suggestions for relief? I’m at 64-70 oz of water, using colace and miralax.

You need fiber. At 4 months, you can't get fiber the traditional way, through fruits and vegetables. But you can get them from juice.

And get a big jar of Metamucil. You can add it into the fluids you're already required to drink. I absolutely hate the stuff, so I add a dose to half the recommended amount of liquid, then glug it down in a flash.

I had a cataclysmic experience with constipation. It took me dozens of visit to the toilet over a period of one day in order to complete ONE bowel movement. After that, it was Metamucil all the way. You can buy other brands of powdered fiber so you don't have to pay top dollar for the superbrand. Don't use any kind of laxative, believe me. You'll regret it and won't get the results your new digestive system needs.

This is among the top 5 things I tell people when constipation is on the menu.

Best of luck. Take care of yourself. Give yourself a break.
