Consultation

Welcome!! I brought a notebook full of questions with me to my first appointment. We talked about the differences between the different surgeries, which one would be more beneficial for me due to health history and goals. I asked about hospital stay, and how much help I might need for recovery. Do you know which surgery you’re interested in? Is this a consultation with a surgeon or dietician? I saw the dietician and counselor before seeing the surgeon. It was an insurance requirement, but they were able to discuss with me my intentions before deciding if I was a good candidate. 2 more appointments left until all my info I sent to the insurance. I’m ready and excited!

This is my first appointment and It’s with the surgeon. I plan on getting the VSG surgery. I’ve talked to my insurance about the requirements and they didn’t mention anything about a 6 month requirement? , people have said that their insurance company requires them to do 6 mo before the will even approve or deny coverage.

Yeah it’s different with every insurance. Mine changed requirements in March to 12 visits. 1 initial counselor visit then 3 additional for mental preparation for surgery. 8 dietician appointments. It was originally 180 days with dietician visits monthly and only one counselor appointment.

I didn't have any requirements from my insurance company, so it does vary quite a bit. Usually, the weight loss clinic you are using will find out what is required from the insurance company and steer you in the right direction.
