Day After Surgery

Hello Everyone, the gastric bypass went well. Started on time, talked to the doc. It lasted longer because I had scar tissue on my lungs from a surgery 10 years ago; but, no problems. However, here's the truth: I was in pain that night, gas is no joke! I am not a moaner or whiner but that kicked my a$$ lol and I asked for very, very, strong meds and got them and was knocked out and slept. Its like when you first go in they prep you and hook up the IVs, one in each hand, next they give you drugs and the next thing you know its ALL OVER, they are calling your name to wake up lol. Yes, I would do it again. Not that I am planning on it lol. That first little ounce of water was sooooooo good lol. I had nothing from the 19th midnight to 21st that evening (take some Vaseline for your lips, glad I did, yuck). Brushing my teeth was a joy lol, peppermint flavor toothpaste lol. At home drugs, you need a gas pill because you feel like you have indigestion, how from just water, but you feel blah and gassy. I have Tylenol for pain which works. Oh and I have to inject a blood thinner shot for the next 14 days!!!!! My husband does that, I am a wimp (side note they don't hurt lol) Wear a diaper because it felt so good to pass gas, but it was wet! But, damn it felt great lol. I drink my water and I had some bone broth soup that I made and that's where we are. I have four small holes in me but you can hardly see them and they do not hurt. I am drinking some herbal ginger tea hoping that will help. Ok, to all the future surgeries coming up, IT WILL BE OKAY! Peace & Healing Oh, my energy level is ok, not running around the block yet, but I am able to do things and not get really tired. And my car would not even come near me, I guess my punishment for being away for two days! She kept smelling me lol and finally came to me this morning.

I have contacted the dr's office because this diarrhea has a mind of its own. I am glad I brought some diapers. I don't think I will be drinking Ginger tea, seems to have started then. Other than that my stomach is tight, and makes a lot of noises. You or at least I haven't been hungry. Drinking bone broth which I made and froze, Jello, water, and Premier Protein water is really great, has 20g. I am beginning to feel a little tired today, so I asked them if I could start my vitamins. If you all have any suggestions on my diarrhea I am all ears. Peace & Healing. Yes, so far its worth it.

Welcome to the loser's bench! You've made it!!

Ugh, I wish I knew what you could do for the diarrhea, I had it so bad for a long time. But that was just me because I had to be on strong antibiotics following my surgery due to an infection. Yours shouldn't last long but it could be the tea that is causing it.
I had to give myself those shots. After the first couple of ones it wasn't so bad. I just had to psych myself into it.

Cats can be funny but she will come around. She probably thinks you had a trip to the vet! LOL!

Nymiria, I think in our mind we get more scared about it than we need to. While it isn't fun, it really isn't that bad. I was prescribed Lovenox.
Did you have any fear about getting the surgery because of clotting stuff? I have four children and I keep getting scared about getting a clot even though the doctors are like with the blood thinner you're going to be just fine! How did you get over that worry?

They also put the legs massagers on each leg and it feels sooooo good. Do not worry about th clots, hence the blood thinners. I guess its a precautionary thing because we won't be moving around a lot. And the needles do not hurt, we just don't like them. They also have tiny blood thinner pill you can take, which after they gave me 29 needles, I was like why not the pills, but it was too late then. You will do fine!

I was hoping it was the tea but I haven't had anymore. Just don't know why the stool is gritty/loose. I did write to the docs but since it happened Sat no one was there. I will let you know later. I just drink more water since I had the runs...thank you, take care.

I'm going to be on blood thinners due to a clotting disorder too! I'm glad to hear they aren't too bad because I've been really nervous about them ! I think it's going to be heparin? Is that what you are.on? And congratulations on getting through the surgery!
The needle is so tiny, you do not feel it. We just do not like the thought of needles. They also have pills so I don't know why they did not offer those. Haven't talked to my doc yet; but, did send and email with my concerns and thoughts lol

I really didn't. I figured it would be fine because I would be taking the blood thinners. 16 years ago I got one after knee replacement surgery. It was my 2nd knee replacement and everything went amazing after the first that I couldn't figure out why the second time I felt so awful. Thankfully they caught it very quickly. I told my bariatric surgeon about it, so they were on notice to watch out just in case. The main thing is to walk as much as you possibly can, not all at once but throughout the day. And to take the blood thinners.

Wow so you actually had.one before?!! Wow! Ok that is reassuring that they were watching extra. I will definitely remember to walk and.move!

Sorry to hear about the diarrhea, but I'm glad everything else seemed to go as expected. Now that you are on the other side, you will be amazed at how wonderful you will begin feeling once that weight begins falling off.

Please don't be too worried if your energy level dips during your liquid stage. My pcp, who also had WLS, reminded me that my calorie level had dropped almost to starvation level, and it was normal to feel weakness until I moved to the pureed stage.

Good luck as you continue your journey.
