Denial and Appeal

Yes, it does make a difference! Have your surgeon request a peer to peer call - be sure your file is all in order to show all your co-morbidities and all the efforts you have already made, as well as the documentation for any pre-surgical items (counseling, diet plans, etc.) that you insurance required.

Nope. I went to my family docter and told her wjat all was going on. Even tho she had ran my blood tests a few months before and everything was clear. She ran new blood tests and they dis show i have hypothyroidism. She started me on a medication to try to help get my thyroid issues balanced back out. In the passed 3 monthes ive gone from 273 to 302. I feel so fatigued all the time. Barely want to get up. I cant try for the bariatric sleeve again until i can get my weight under control.

When my thyroid went out on me I felt the same way. I changed doctors and am now taking T3 and T4 (levothyroxine 150 mcg; liothyronine 20 mcg) and can stay active until 10pm. Sure made a big difference. Weight loss is still difficult tho.

I don't know if your doctor put a name on your version of hypothyroidism, but it is extremely important if you have hypothyroidism to be really careful about this covid-19 or any other invasive virus. People with Hashimoto's, which includes at least two members here, can pick up covid-19 it takes a long time to get over.

It's more important to deal with your thyroid right now than it is to worry about your scheduled surgery. And nothing's going to work right, including being able to metabolize food, unless your thyroid is in balance. Keep us posted about how you're doing.
I have Hashimotos and it is very difficult to control in the beginning. I have had periods where my blood was drawn every 4 months, and sometimes my levels would show hyperthyroid and sometimes hypothyroid. I’ve been on the same dose for over a year now, 237 mcg, which is a higher dose. I’ve already got my lab requests in for after the surgery, so my endocrinologist can keep monitoring my thyroid levels. He’s totally on board with the WLS though since I am now pre diabetic. However, if I were to gain more than 10 pounds in a couple months, I would call the office and request to have my labs done again, because once you’ve found your right dose, you should stay pretty even keel. Most primary care physician will be more conservative on dosing thyroid meds where as endocrinologists tend to push it a little to have a more substantial and faster recovery. Recovery being a relative term since it never actually goes away.

It is great that your family dr is trying to help out with this, but have you reached out to schedule an appt with an endocrinologist? I feel like you would probably have better luck with this specialist who focuses on this issue on the reg. I can't imagine where your mind is nowadays but I certainly hope things turn around for you. Remember we are all here for you and happy to listen or give advice if needed. Keep us updated.

I think this is good advice. Your endo also might be able to help with the insurance backing up your comorbid condition.

My doctor put me on levothoxine 25 mcg tablets. She said to take it for 3 to 4 months then have my blood redrawn to see if it makes a difference or if i need to have a higher dose. Thing is my appointment to find out is tomorrow but they called and told me they are not taking actual walk in appointments right now due to the epademic, only phone and video chat appointments. How am i supposed to have my blood and blood pressure checked if i cant even go to my doctor. I also have high blood pressure. I feel like im screwed.

I don’t think they’re worried about blood pressure right now. I would have had my surgeon appointment last month, and a nurse called before my virtual visit to do my check in and only asked about meds, current pain level (which I found odd), and my current weight. My blood was drawn at a lab with an appointment, then my doctor got the results, so maybe they’ll have you do that?
