Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to this chat so forgive me. I had a gastric bypass 24 years ago and due to some complications unrelated to the bypass directly they had to un do it and ultimately had to do a Gastric Sleeve on September 3, 2014. I am about weeks post op and losst 1 pound last week and less than a pound this week. I too am having feelings of hunger, and thirst, but despite all the "following directions to the letter" I am NOT loosing the past two weeks. Anyone experience this and if so how can I get back on track?
Thanks-Nalagirl

WELCOME to the Forum, Nalagirl!!! Glad you are here. :)

After bariatric surgery, I had a weight gain of about 15 lb due to so much intravenous fluids given during and after surgery. That water weight takes time to come off. You may have water retention too. What are you eating? How much did they say you should be eating? If you are not getting enough protein, that will make you hungry. Protein keeps the hunger pangs away. How are you feeling?

Hi Cheyenne,
Thank you for your response. All they told me about quantity of food was that eventually I'd be able to eat about 7 oz at a time. Last night for dinner I had 1-1oz zucchini patty, 1.5oz cooked chicken breast and about 8 green beans. I wonder if that is too much food? I was full. I don't think I have been getting exactly the 60-80g of protein he recommended, but I'm coming close to that, but I'll try to keep better track and try to meet that. I have done good weight loss wise but seems as more and more foods have been added, I've stopped loosing. Grrr! Well I'll wait til Sunday when I weigh in again an see if this helps. Thank you again for the advice

Your welcome. :) Weight loss is different with each individual. Some people can eat small amounts of everything and continue to lose weight. Some people can't. I myself lose weight best if I restrict my menu. After surgery when I was cleared to eat food I did fine eating lotsa different foods but I was only eating a couple spoonfuls of food at a time. As the time went by I found I lost faster when I limited my diet to certain foods. For a while I ate an egg for breakfast and a salad twice a day with chicken in it. Then I switched to twice a day eating a fourth of a chicken breast with a couple ounces of green beans and a couple ounces of stewed tomatoes. I still was eating my egg for breakfast. I lost a lot of weight eating this way, too. Right now I'm buying rotisserie chicken and cutting off a chunk as I eat a vegetable. Now I'm losing weight pretty well again. For awhile I hit a plateau but I was eating fruit (carbs) several times a day because I craved it. I didn't gain weight but I wasn't losing very much either. So I'm back to limiting my variety of foods for now. Once I get closer to goal weight I will try to add more variety back in. I just try to think that I'm eating to live and not living to eat. Because of bad knees I'm not much of an exercise person. I plan on getting my knees fixed soon too.

Good luck!!! Let us know how you are doing.

The other important thing to note is that you will encounter many weight plateaus in your journey even early.

So, just continue to follow your food quidelines. Don't overeat, eat slowly and be patient. As long as you are true to yourself and are following your surgeon's/nutritionists recommendations the weight will come off. It comes off when the body is ready.

Yes, you might even see an increase too. I sometimes hold fluids for a day or two and then they just come "out of me" if you know what I mean. :)

So, follow the quidelines. Make sure you get the protein. I am instructed by my nutritionist/surgeon to always make sure I have the protein first and then if I have capacity other foods.
