It’s been 11 months since my surgery.. I’ve lost some weight but not a lot. I still get full extremely fast so I don’t each much because it literally hurts my stomach after so many bites and I’ll get nauseous if I continue. I’m wondering why I haven’t lost more weight than I have. Starting weight: 389-390 Current weight: 320-325

Look at your own math, you've lost about 70lbs congratulations when have you ever lost 70lbs and been able to keep it off. You will go through stages sometimes the weight falls off and sometimes it is slow. When I hit 11 months I had lost between 70-100lbs. It's now been since March of 24 and since surgery I was 354 the day of and I currently stay between 205-215. I workout as much as possible. I eat like crap though....it's hard to maintain a perfect diet, I eat a lot better post surgery than I ever have but I still break down and eat crap. The way I saw it though was like this, you start off way heavier than the average person we all do, at my peak I was over 400lbs, so that first 100lbs you're still bigger than most average sized people. Think about what I just said and don't worry, follow what the Dr. tells you to do and you will succeed. After surgery my first 70lbs I was still almost 300lbs I'm barely 5'11". I never really started seeing myself as skinny or fit until just recently and all total I'm down almost 200lbs. Starting so heavy takes a lot more weight lose than someone who only needs to lose 20lbs to look skinny. Plus my big thing is regardless of my size I still feel like a fat person, there's a lot of emotional baggage that needs to be dealt with that comes along with being morbidly obese. It can be hard but just remember you did this surgery for a reason, it's not an overnight success it takes at least 1-2 years with diligent work in order to see great results. By the way 70lbs is a lot, go to the gym and put to 35lb plates in a backpack and put it on and walk around and then tell me what you think about losing 70lbs, it's way more than you think. Good luck and keep the faith.

I can empathize with you so much! I have had my struggles, too. I am only 8 weeks post-op, and I'm not eating at all; very little to nothing in fact. I was told that because of this, my body may not be able to shed weight, as it's hoarding it for energy. It is very upsetting because the whole point of doing the surgery is to lose weight, so I get your frustrations. What has caused me to push past the plateau is incorporating walking. This helped me lose 20 pounds, which seemed to happen overnight. Maybe you could start slow and build up to a mile, which is a 22-30 minute walk up to 1 hour a day. This will increase your metabolism, causing you to lose more weight.

I agree with others that 70 pounds is a HUGE accomplishment! I used to struggle to get enough food in. I still sometimes struggle with certain foods...sometimes fish and chicken depending on how it is made. I would suggest trying to find the proteins that you digest the best. You could also try more protein shakes to help up your protein and liquid intake. A dietician from your surgeon's office might have other suggestions too.

I feel down and discouraged right now too. I am only 5 weeks out of a modified duodenal switch or SADI-S. I am encouraged by your story. 70 pounds is great! I have been told I will hit periods where I don’t lose. I feel like I am barely getting in food and protein. Cannot eat much. Getting my protein and liquid goals in each day but I feel like when I go to my 6 week appointment next week I won’t have lost any since my 2 week appointment. Not sure if that’s correct. I threw away my scale bc I was so worried I would get on it too much. I think I expected weight to fall off real fast and had too high of expectations. I do not have a thyroid and have to take thyroid meds so I guess I could be hypothyroid since the surgery doesn’t allow me to absorb as much. We will see. But please keep going and know that you have really encouraged me. Congratulations on your hard work!!
