Feeling stressed.

Hi all. I just had my gastric bypass surgery with an umbilical hernia repair on Tuesday the 28th. They made an incision to remove the hernia that was sticking out from my belly button ( size of a baseball) and now I won’t have a belly button. . I’m still in the hospital will get discharged tomorrow but I’m in pain mostly from my hernia. Also, I have some open ulcers in my right leg and it’s been a challenge to walk since it is painful. They took me off from the IV pain medication and I need to drink it in a syrup way and some pills. . It is making me so nauseas. Did I also mention that I’m so bloated. I guess it will all be worth it in the long run.

Walk, walk, walk. It helps so much. It really does stimulate healing. Also, really try to get the protein in, as that helps a great deal with healing too. Make very short walks several times a day and then slowly increase the length of your walks and decrease the frequency. A good goal is to get up to 30 minutes or more walking per day by the time you reach the 3-week mark. But as always, you should verify what your doctor suggests you do since everyone is a bit different and your doctor's expectations might be different.

Hi, Lulu. Glad to hear you are feeling better. It might take a little longer to get up to speed due to the swelling and ulcers but you'll get there. Every pound you lose will help too. Just focus on getting your protein and your liquids and walking when you can. You'll do great.
