Feeling Stuck :(

I had my surgery on November 16th of this year and currently down 50 pounds. I weighed myself this week and maintained which I know is not completely abnormal. I am thinking it is because I am struggling with eating. I can go 2 days without eating because I’m just so thirsty so I drink too much water. Then there are other days where I am just so hungry I can eat 3 to 4 small things and feel okay. Any suggestions or tips to overcome this or is this pretty normal after Bariatric surgery?

Getting adequate calories and protein is really important for the weight loss to keep moving forward. If you could find a few things that you know you can commit to, even if it’s Greek yogurt or protein shakes, having a couple times a day until you have more of an appetite.

Have you contacted your surgeon’s office? That might be a good first step because it’s so important that you’re getting proper nutrition. Do you have a registered dietitian that you can reach out to? I have appointments once per month with mine.

Trying to keep a good balance of nutrition and hydration is important. Going two days with no food and only water is something you should probably try to change. You should have a chat with a bariatric dietician to see how you might get into a better routine. Even having something like a flavored Greek yogurt, a protein drink and some other health snacks would be better than going without. The first couple months can be a little weird for some people, in that you will have some ups and downs with food for a while, but you should definitely consume some balanced nutrition every day, even if it's smaller amounts than other days. As the weeks went by, I found things normalizing and sort of balancing out after some initial ups and downs.
