Fighting the Scale

Today is 5 weeks post-op for me. The first two weeks weight loss was great ( losing 10 lbs a week). Then all of a sudden it has taken me three weeks to lose 9 more pounds. I'm getting frustrated with the scale! I'm averaging 350-500 cals. a day, generally get the 60mg of protein, exercise 1 hour 5 days a week, I do however, struggle getting 64 oz. of water daily. Help!!! Is there something I need to change or try differently?

Hi Johna, the big question is, are you getting enough protein in? If not, that is most likely your culprit. Be sure that you are meeting the protein and fluid intake recommended by your WLS team. if that is good, how are the clothes fitting? If they are looser, then you are doing well. You are working out for an hour five times a week, so you are building lean muscle mass, which weighs more than fat does. So even though you are getting thinner, the scale may not show. Finally, your body makes adjustments during this journey, so it may just be trying to catch up with you. As long as you continue to follow your team's plan you will lose the weight, but I'll bet it will never be fast enough. Keep on the right path and I'll see you in the Big Losers Circle one day soon.

By the way, congrats on your weight loss so far. You're down 29 lbs in 5 weeks, that is nothing to sneeze at. Please keep us up to date on your progress.
