Finally, a diagnosis!

After all these months, today I received a definitive diagnosis as to what has been causing my low blood pressure, rapid heart rate and several other issues. My podiatrist took biopsies of both feet a few weeks ago, and the results show that I have small fiber neuropathy.

Unfortunately, there is no treatment for this. It will continue to worsen over time. Currently, I am managing the nerve pain with amitriptyline at night, and hopefully that will work for a while.

My blood pressure is being managed with medication, but it never gets higher than the 90s. I will always be considered a fall risk, and was encouraged to get a walker to keep at my bed for trips to the bathroom at night.

On the bright side, overall I am feeling much better. I recently had my 6 month visit with my bariatric surgeon. My BMI was 24, and he discouraged me from losing any more weight, as it put me in the healthy zone and the more weight I lose, the lower my BP drops.

I am walking Okie regularly, when the weather permits. I get fatigued very easily, but I do my best to stay as active as I can.

I am looking forward to visiting my grandson for a week in early April!

At the end of April I'm getting a mini face lift to get rid of some of the extra skin I've acquired! It's going to be done in my dermotologist's office, without anesthesia.

In May I will be having cataract surgery on both eyes.

I spent the afternoon shopping for clothes at Costco (is that weird?). I didn't have any Spring clothes in my new size. How exciting it was to buy Smalls!

I am trying to stay optimistic, but I am very scared. The nerve pain can with this condition as it gets worse can be excruciating.

Sorry I have not kept in touch. I've been very busy with doctors and really exhausted. I also wanted to have answers, and was hoping for better news.

Hope you are all doing well.

Welcome back Kathi. On one hand I am glad you finally have a diagnosis but sorry that there is no treatment and that it is painful. It certainly explains the falls. I am right there with you with staying optimistic!

Congrats on size small! Wowsers! And good for you getting a mini facelift. You deserve to do whatever makes you happy.

I'll bet your grandson is getting big already, how nice that you will having a visit soon. :)

It's so good to hear from you. I wish you had a better prognosis too, but it's got to be nice to know what the problems are after flying blind for so long. And with medical advances, they are finding new ways of treating things every day so stay hopeful.

Mini facelift AND small clothes?! I'm jelly AF! You and Okie are going to be out there stopping traffic in no time. I hope with the new meds you start feeling better and get some of your stamina back. You're going to need it for your grandson ;)
