Frustrated

I recently went for my 2-week post-op check. I lost 1 lb in the 2 weeks. I’m frustrated because even with significant surgery and restricted eating, I only lost 1 lb. Any encouraging words?
Your weight at this point means practically nothing. During the first month, give or take, there is a lot of fluctuation in body fluid, hydration, ketosis, swelling, and other changes that everyone experiences a bit differently. Of course, we want to see it drop as quickly as possible, but the bottom line is, there are changes happening regardless of what the scale reads on a particular day or week. Each person's biology deals with post-surgery in its own way. Follow the recommended guidelines to perfection and step away from the scale for a while. I know that is hard to do.

Not seeing the scale change at this point isn't indicative of what's to come. Stick with it, do what is recommended, and let things play out. It may go slow, or it may speed up, but staying on track will keep you going in the right direction over time.

Oh gosh, every one is so different but I’ve heard from several others that this was their case as well so you definitely are not alone. Be patients and listen to your body. You will get there :)

Did you have a restricted diet before surgery? How much weight did you lose in the weeks or months pre-surgery? That also may play into your slower weight loss now. Please try not to worry; your weight loss will kick in if you are following the recommended water and protein amounts. Good luck and try to focus on sipping 64+ oz of water, protein, and movement whenever possible.

I came out of surgery 10lbs heavier!

I had serious complications after my surgery which was unforeseen because i was pretty healthy almost died and required another surgery needless to say my 6th say in the hospital i asked to be weight and I’d gained 13 lbs since preop!!!! I wasn’t even eating yet. To recap I was 242 preop which meant i gained 5 lbs on the preop diet. I was 255 post op the second surgery 5 days later. Today I am 31 days out from the original gastric bypass surgery and weigh 218. I know a girl that’s only a few weeks ahead of me that’s lost 62 lbs. I’m a little frustrated myself.

Please don't get discouraged. Everyone loses at different rates. You are you, not your friend. Please believe me, as long as you are getting 64+ ozs of water and 50-70 gms of protein daily, and moving as much as possible, the weight will come off, lb by lb, and unlike previous "diets," it will stay off. You already are successful. Don't give up hope, sweetie! ❤❤

I went into more detain in a previous post to you iliandbbmom so I won't go into a lot of detain now but in case you missed it, I also had a lot of complications and 2 emergency surgeries after WLS. I wound up gaining over 40 lbs without eating all from edema following the surgeries. It took about 3-4 weeks to lose that fluid and then start to really lose my by starting weight pre-surgery. Don't give up. For people like you and me it is important not to compare to how others are losing. Just like premature babies, we do catch up eventually. Hang in there dear!

I had my surgery in July and haven't lost a pound since the 6 week recovery period..... Gave up 2/3 of my stomach for nothing... I'm completely confused as to what part the surgery plays in weight loss.
I'm so sorry to hear about your struggle. The surgery is a tool, not a cure. It is supposed to give your body the chance to work with your brain (head hunger) by decreasing the hormonal hunger signals you experience that interfere with the normal "I'm hungry" and "I'm full" messages.

If you check below the posts in this section, you will find additional resources with a 5 day pouch reset article. You also might check Diane's guide for foods to eat after WLS to help you get back on track. Are you drinking 64-80+ ozs of water, and consuming 60-80 gms of protein daily? You might want to weigh/measure and write down every bite you consume. Increase your movement and you should be able to see your weight loss restart.

This is not to be taken as medical advice, and you should consult with your pcp and your bariatric team to see if anything medically is causing your stall. Please don't give up on yourself. You've come so far already, and you have the rest of your life to get the rest of your weight off. Good luck!
