Functional medician

I recently followed up with my bariatic doctor who noticed I was 6 months past my 1 year check in. Everything is good but I got a strong reprimand for not meeting with a dietician.

Recently given the increased issues with physical health I decided to go down the path of functional medicine. I have been working with a functional nutritionist for a month and just started with a functional medicine doc.

The nutritionist is far more helpful the the one assigned with the bariatric team. She operates from a intuitive eat lense what feels like a much better fit and actually helped adjust my out of walk eating resulting in the loss of the 5 pounds I had gain.

I met with the functional medicine doc this week to look at a few things. She did some additional blood work- of which I have received the thyroid tests back. Also looking at food sensitivities. Both of which to help address trauma responses and migraines. So far the results are not surprising but I'm actually impressed what they can tell from blood work. So far it's further solidified that my stress level is incredibly high and my body is showing physical responses as a result...also highly like, but not surprisingly, adding to the increased migraines.

I am doing an overhaul on work life which seems nearly impossible to help address this. It is probably one of the hardest things for me to change.

I really wish bariatric worked worked with a functional medicine team.

I am with mom I need to check this out and see if 1 I can find a provider and 2 find out if my insurance/Medicare would cover. Sounds very health oriented to me from this post. In 2014 I did have a food sensitivities test. Onion was a very serious sensitivity. It causes an sane like break out which explains a lot since my teen years. But not normal acne the head is hard and is painful, I was always itching at it trying to make it ”pop”. Never popped just additional irritation. And when I was small mom thought the onion resistance was just picky eating.

After reading about it, I believe, and please correct me if I am wrong, it’s a lot like holistic medicine. I can see how it’s appealing, but I don’t know if it’s appropriate for me. Glad it’s helping you Tokash!

It's not totally holistic, but yes more on those lines. Looks are root causes and what to do verses slapping meds to fix it. I opted for this route as I hate taking meds and my migraines are crazy. Through extended blood work it was able to show that while my thyroid works fine the levels are high due to stress resulting in my magnesium to be low and my body inflamed likely contributing to my migraines. As a result I will add in a few supplements but also trying other self care.

I work in a field that really likes to add in holistic stuff as it does help and medication is not always the fix, thus this works. Medical Marijuana is also considered to be under functional medicine.

It also looks at food sensitivities and how to address them if it's an issue leading to other things like headaches and stomach issues.

Functional nutrtion is more about balancing what you eat for your body. Not dieting but healthy amounts of everything amd eating intuitively. I ha e worked with the functional nutritional person for a month and lost the 4 pounds I gain, feel much more content and what she tells me has allied with what the functional doc has told me.
