Yes this is tough but part of being a good parent is keeping your kids and pets at a healthy weight. My aunt always kept her kids obese for whatever reason. Result both of my female cousins were never married, no kids and they both died of blocked colons. My two male cousins have had medical problems all their lives, they married but divorced later. Children ,like pets only eat what the parents or school lunches give them to eat. You can’t get fat on school lunches , even if you try, do that leaves the parents with the responsibility.
