Hi,I’m 8 months out from bypass surgery, I started process at 287. At surgery 267 and now just 230. I see other people losing tons of weight and mine is only coming off very slowly. I’m getting discouraged at this point. I’m trying to get my water in and eating about 1000 calories daily. I ended up having a hernia repair 2 months after first surgery and now elbow surgery. I was exercising and following the plan. I have an autoimmune condition does that effect anything. I really need help I’ve been stuck at this weight for almost 2 months now

37 pounds might not seem like a lot to you, but that is terrific! Keep up the good work!

I have ankylosing spondylitis, which is also an auto-immune disorder and why I had gastric sleeve surgery. Losing weight has helped with pain,
and the depression that goes with it. My procedure was in July; I started at 198 pounds, and Im down to 145. The many benefits include blood sugar control without meds, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, greater mobility, and now controllable pain levels. I am in constant pain still, but controlling it is no longer the issue it once was. I feel like a new person! So yes, having an auto-immune disorder plays a role in your weight loss efforts. Have a talk with your doctor, and a nutritionist for guidance. I was having a hard time losing weight, too. It has recently been coming off as I am learning how to eat. I needed more protein, less carbs, to eat smaller portions, and less frequently. Its been a tough road for me with this arthritic condition, which causes many complications. My body rejects most medications, protein shakes, and hard to chew foods.

From my journey I know weight loss can be achieved through perseverance, patience and dedication. May you find what works for you.
Everyone is different, and I sincerely wish you the best :)

I've experienced a slow drop on my weight loss as well. My surgery was on October 03 of this year;I'm 11 weeks post op gastric sleeve as of yesterday (12/19/2025) and have lost 30 pounds. I was 319 at my heaviest and I'm weighing in at 268 currently.

I've gone over in my head a million times, that I should be down 20-30 more pounds, but I'm not.
Its been a weekly process to weigh myself to see any differences.
I'm just now able to eat 5 ounces of food as well. I strive to eat about three times a day and sometimes get pain when consuming my food.

Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Yes, @SSMITH0503 you are not alone. I do have stomach pain when I eat anything other than hot cereals (cream of wheat is great), or creamy soups.
For some reason my body prefers light and hot foods, even after five months.

Thank you for your quick response! I do okay eating thinly sliced deli meats and cheeses, but anything too heavy causes discomfort. Do you consume any kinds of breads, or pastas at five months post surgery?!

I find I do tolerate carbs well, but I don't lose enough weight eating them. My goals are different than the average bariatric patient. I have many health reasons to get and keep the weight off.

the best advise i can give you is NOT to compare your weightloss with others. Its not healthy and not everyone is the same. I did this a lot with my initial surgery. I was so mad thst I felt like I was following the doer to a T, but I only ended up losing only 45 lbs before stalling for years. my weightloss seemed to stop at the 8th month mark. Then I had ppl that I followed and they lost like 75+ pounds in that same amount of time and loosely following the diet. it was so frustrating for me..even though I was still happy for them...it made me feel horribly about having the surgery. You just have to keep pushing. stay strong...maybe start weighing your food and logging it. its possible you're eating more calories than you think. Up your steps in walking Aim for 10k daily, up your protein and fluid intake....I'm not sure what you're doing...but I'm just trying to give you some ideas. if you feel discouraged seeing other people lose more than you...maybe don't view their stories or whatever. It doesn't seem yo be motivating you...so what's the use in that?

Please don't focus so much on how much you're loosing. Loosing any is good. My surgeon told me many times everyone is different and there is no average amount people loose each week or month.
