Getting discouraged

My clearances are taking longer than I thought and it's put me back months. I'm upset and feeling like I won't even care for the surgery once it's time..any encouraging words are appreciated
I had problems getting my insurance company to approve my surgery. They kept saying the the person in charge of sending in the paperwork to the insurance company wasn't sending in the correct paperwork. I finally told the hospital if they don't get it done right I was going to cancel everything. Before the hospital got everything taken care of. Good luck and keep us updated on how everything is going

Try to keep telling yourself that things happen for a reason. You were meant to have this time to discover something about yourself, perhaps something that will help you in the long term... Maybe read an inspiring book, something to prepare you for this new life you'll be starting. :)

I agree with Brenda! Use your time in a way that will benefit you. I spent 9 months in a 6 month program and it was right for me. When I had my surgery July 1 I was prepared and ready! No hesitation at all. I think it gave my mind time to adjust and be as ready as possible for the new normal.

It can be very discouraging these days. When I went in for my consultation the doctor just looked at me said it just barely a hundred pounds overweight and that is the required number to get approval for this surgery from Medicare. He had a form letter she had already written when she used for all of his patients. He sent one into the FDA for me and also copied Medicare on the communication and was so certain of my approval that he just started planning and I had my surgery 6 weeks later. Nowadays, even though the procedures have become more sophisticated, it seems all medical personnel follow some sort of cookie cutter formula you must go through before you're allowed to have the surgery. I didn't experience it so I'm no expert on it. But it seems like a lot of extra stuff you shouldn't really have to do. I have a special problem with the psych evaluation. Man could that make you doubt yourself and your decision! It seems to me the process kind of run backward. I want to encourage you it just relax but also to be assertive about what you want. You are the patient here. You are the dollar sign. You have comorbidities. There's no reason why at every appointment you shouldn't be pushing for the next appointment to happen in the next week. There's no reason why you shouldn't accelerate the process and that your doctor should delay you, if that's what's delaying you. Now if they're finding problems and needing to look at a different scenario oh, that's a very legitimate and serious thing. But don't lose your focus. You know what you want. It may be that three months are added onto what you thought was going to be a reasonable schedule. You can handle it. Again, be assertive. Make it happen and if someone tries to put an obstacle in your path, challenge them. Make them explain exactly why you need to be delayed any longer. A lot of people who will be working around you have a lot of more patients that they are dealing with and they are juggling. Just make sure that you are one of the Indian clubs they're flipping in the air.

Thanks Diane that made me feel better... I'm just wanting to get it done and over with and these doctors are scheduling me further and further out ugh...but thank you for the encouraging words

I'm trying to Annie..it just frustrates me so..I feel almost like saying bump all this I give up..

I was feeling very frustrated too with the clearances. I'm scheduled to have surgery Dec 4, 2019 and I had to do so much running around and pestering my Internal Medicine Dr. for my clearance, that I was really frustrated and was about to give up. I first visited my surgeon in Sept, and he gave me all the paperwork to start the process. I did all the was requested of me and after running around like crazy, I got my clearances. Most of the the problem was with the personnel in my Internal Medicine Doctor's office. My concern now is that Medicare does not give approval prior to Surgery. The surgery has to be performed and then submit for approval. I have Medicare and United Healthcare as my secondary insurance, so hopefully it will be approved. I do meet all the criterias, but I am not 100 pounds overweight, I have to lose about 93 lbs, hopefully that won't be a problem with the insurance. My BMI is 40. Has anyone had problems with Medicare approving the Surgery?

Medicare approved the surgery I had in March. I'm certain the doctor would not have scheduled your surgery if he didn't think he'd be paid.
