Getting to know everyone

Hi everyone. Trying to get back into the group and by engaging more with everyone. I am 57 years old. Technically, I am still new as I have only posted 3-4 times when I was researching WLS trying to decide between Sleeve and RNY. I had RNY surgery on 8/5/21. HW was 278. SW was 278. CW is 208. GW is 160 but I am 5'9" so I am not sure how realistic the 160 goal is. I have been doing well and no real complications except that I had to have an emergency appendectomy 6 weeks post op but I am healed from that. I work full time so it's hard to try to remember to come online and say hi. I have a very stressful job as I work as a social worker for child protective services and sometimes I am on call overnight, weekends, etc. I have a husband who I have been married to for 39 years (as of Feb 5) and he is super supportive of my surgery and journey. I have two adult children. I have one 2 1/2 year old grandson. I've been getting about 85-90 grams of protein a day, about 95 oz. of water a day and at about 700-800 calories a day. I don't really count the calories but my Baritastic app does so I thought I would put it. Weight loss has been steady. It was 3-4lb per week and has now gone down to 1 1/2-2 1/2 lb. per week. I'm ok with that. Must be doing something right because I feel great and 70lb down. 8 more to Onederland. I did pretty good over the holidays because I haven't eaten sugar yet. I am so worried about dumping so I figure I won't risk it until I get closer to goal weight as my restrictions is still pretty good. My doctor told me that I would probably not have issues with dumping because I had my gall bladder out in 1987 and my body has gotten used to the sugar/fat but I am not sure that is true. I don't want to test it because I will either dump or won't and I am afraid that if I don't, it might set me up to try other things that I shouldn't so it's just better to keep it no sugar for now. I am a bit worried about maintenance but I still have several months to go to worry about that so we will see. I see others worry about this too so I am in good company. Hope to continue to make connections and supports from you all.

Hey, LL. Sounds like you're doing great. I never heard that dumping is less of an issue if you've had your gallbladder out previously. BUT I did and don't have dumping issues so maybe that's true?!? Either way, it's not a great idea to eat too much sugary/processed stuff so I think it's smart you're waiting.

Fatty food was a greater cause of dumping for me. But I only had to dump once to get religion. I remember every detail about it. I was in a crosswalk. Suddenly it felt like my bowels were pushing out of my anus, with a sickening feeling behind leading up to my stomach. Sort of like John Hurt in Alien when the creature clamped onto his face... And there was nothing I could do about it. I could barely get across the street.

Avoid at all cost! You can have a hot fudge sundae in a few months, when your body has adjusted to it's new plumbing.
Awe you poor thing. That is exactly the type of thing I would like to avoid.

Glad to have you back, LL. It sounds like you are doing all the hard work necessary to make your journey so far a success. Thank you for reminding us what that looks like. And definitely 'no thanks!' to dumping. I cannot think of any food that would be so irresistible that I would risk going through what Diane described.
