Half way there

I set a 100 pound weight loss goal for myself at my surgical weight because that would put me at the weight I was in high school, and it was a nice even number. On surgery day I weighed 280. I stepped on the scale this morning and saw 230 blinking at me. Half way to my goal. I know the next 50 will be a lot slower than the first and I’m prepared for that. I actually wasn’t prepared to lose so much so quickly. I go for thyroid blood work this morning, and I expect my levothyroxine to be reduced by quite a bit. That will take my body a lot of time to adjust to, so I’m ready for more stalls. It’s all part of the process. My surgery center is having a virtual gala for their surgery patients from the last year at the end of the month, but I’m not sure about attending. I know meeting in person is totally impractical, but the virtual celebration just seems kind of strange and impersonal.

Way to go 3mom, you are doing great! You always have a positive attitude and I love that! The virtual celebration might be fun and you can slip out pretty easily if you decide it isn't for you. ;)

My endocrinologist and I have been trying to get my thyroid level where it should be the past six months. I had been on the same dose of levothyroxine it seems forever and now just can't get it right. I don't have a thyroid - had total thyroidectomy 20 years ago due to a very large goiter, Hashimoto's disease and not one but two types of thyroid cancer. Following bariatric surgery my levothyroxine was raised as I was had gotten too low and then it went too high so we went lower again but in between the two previous dosages. I am hoping that this time we have gotten it right (it take 6 weeks after a med adjustment to see if it is the correct dose, so this takes time) If not, then I can only guess that the weight loss and possibly having sepsis may be the cause of it going wacky. After all the sepsis wacked out my kidney function. Not fun. Anyway I will let you know later this month when I meet with my endocrinologist. Fingers crossed!

I’ve got Hashimotos as well, and my current med level is high enough to cause everyone who looks at my dose to question if I’m taking too much LOL I know that absorption can be changed after the surgery as well as the addition of biotin, which my endocrinologist does not want me to take, but I can’t find a multivitamin without it! Anyways, hopefully we can both be sorted out soon :)

Oh wow, I didn't know about the biotin. I will ask my doctor about that. My primary doctor knows I take it but I haven't discussed it with my endocrinologist so I will. That's funny that when you say your med level is high and they all question it, mine is low and they all question mine too. But after having thyroid cancer you keep it on the low side because you don't want the cancer to come back.

Congratulations! You are killing it! And I love your attitude re: stalls etc. It's so hard to keep calm about some of this journey but you really do just take it all in stride. You should be proud of yourself.

My thyroid blood work was as expected, too much levothyroxine, and my endocrinologist is having me take the same amount of meds daily except Sunday when I only take one of the pills, 125 mcg. I take 237 mcg daily. I see him at the end of February, so I think he’ll want to wait a couple more months for more blood work. I feel like the next 3 months are filled with check ups with all my different doctors...because they are LOL February is the endocrinologist, March is my gyno and primary, and April is my 6 month post op. Fun fun!!

I also went quickly through the first 50 (10 wks). The next 50 were slower (18 wks), but I had much more energy and was able to increase the walks to 5-8 miles at a time! By my 8 month mark, I was hiking in the Shenandoah mountains!! Great job!

Thanks! Things have definitely slowed down, but I’m fine with that. I knew that would happen, and knowing that with bypass weight loss can take longer, I was already mentally prepared for that. The cold weather is bothering my joints more than before my surgery, arthritis is fun, but once warmer temps hit, I’ll be back outside all the time. We love to hike and bike, so I’m ready for it!

Might be fun to dress up and put on fabulous inappropriate make up! I watch these make up videos and think where on earth would I wear it? Jamie French is amazing and hysterical, if you need inspiration! ;)

And congratulations!! 50lb is no joke! I'm about 40 down and am 10 away from ONEderland! can't wait!
