Has anyone else had a leak post VSG?

Hi! So, I had a sleeve done on December 1st and I've been having a pretty tough time. I was readmitted with a leak on December 6th and had surgical repair. Unfortunately, the leak recurred along with two abdominal abbesses' a couple weeks later. I developed sepsis. This time the doctors placed a drain and decided to let the leak heal on it's own. The end result of all this is that I haven't really eaten for three months. I'm on IV nutrition and antibiotics at home.
A few days ago the doctor let me start having clears and it went alright at first but now I'm having a lot of nausea so I'm thinking I'm going to have to go back to just ice chips. Nausea has been a problem for me since surgery but it had been getting better. Right now I'm waiting for a call from the doctor to let me know what to do.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems like this. Leaks don't happen often. I had a lap band and removal more than ten years ago which apparently left a lot of scar tissue and that is why this happened to me. If you have had a leak, I would love to hear from you about your treatment and progress. I feel like I'm never going to be normal again.

Hello, I had a leak after my surgery in July of 2024. I developed it two weeks after surgery. I had a drain, I had a TPN for 6 weeks and was not allowed to HAVE anything by mouth for 6 weeks. I received all of my medications through my TPN. I was very fortunate. My leak did heal in those six weeks and I was able to transition to a regular diet VERY slowly. I did have a lot of nausea but eventually it did go away. I wasn't even allowed to have ice chips while on my TPN.

I'm so sad that that all happened to both of you! That's very scary. How are each of you now? I'm hoping to have my sleeve bariatric surgery in early August. I've had my gallbladder removed, my appendix removed, a tubal ligation after my youngest daughter was born more than 30 years ago, a partial hysterectomy, then a full hysterectomy, and when I lost 121 pounds during the pandemic, I had a tummy tuck. So...even though he signed off on my bariatric surgery and said I'm healthy enough to go through with it, my primary doctor also said that I have lots of scar tissue in my abdomen and the bariatric surgeon will need to take all of that into account. I wasn't too worried, but after reading your two stories, I do feel more anxious now.

I'm so sorry you're going thru all of that. I really hope they figure out a solution for you.

Before having my gastric bypass I had already had an exploratory female surgery, gallbladder removal and a hysterectomy. I had some scar tissue too. A few months after the gastric bypass I had some issues and had a lapscopy to remove scar tissue and that helped.

I get to have a virtual appointment with my bariatric surgeon tomorrow at lunchtime to talk about my previous surgeries, possible scar tissue and current issues (there are many!), so he can decide if the sleeve bariatric surgery is still my best option or if I should have a different type of gastric surgery. I look forward to that appointment.

That's great you were able to have an appointment so quickly and can get insight into the best type of surgery for you.

My doctor just told me that the sleeve bariatric surgery is still the best option for me. Yeah. That's the one I wanted, but I wasn't sure once all the lab and test results started coming in from my checklist appointments. He doesn't see any red flags and he said I'm on track for my surgery.

I feel bad for you. I had surgery in 2001 I had the total gastric bypass and a week after my surgery my staples came loose and I was septic and they gave me 4 different antibiotics for 8 days
