Heartburn

I had surgery (sleeve) 2 months ago. I am having a terrible time with heartburn. I have to watch what I eat. I also have to eat pudding or something to coat my stomach before I take my meds. The gabapentin is the worst. It will cause heartburn up into my throat. I am trying to get them to take me off of it but no luck yet. Am going to get in touch with my PCP tomorrow. I guess if she won't do it I will talk to the surgeon. My surgeon has me on 20mg of omeprozole every day. Is this normal? I was told by a friend who has had this surgery to take tums. I'm not sure what to do.

Ugh, I'm sorry to hear it Cindy. I had RNY so can't speak to the sleeve but have heard that heartburn can be an issue. I hope your doctor has some good suggestions tomorrow.

I went to see the nurse practitioner at my surgeons office today. I told her I was still having problems with heartburn at times. She said she doesn't want to do anything yet, that sometimes it will get better after a certain amount of weight loss. We also discussed the gabapentin. It's kind of a wait and see thing. Until I'm off of the gabapentin we won't know if that is causing it. I'm supposed to keep a food journal. I don't go back for 6 months unless there are problems. That must mean I am doing good.
