Hello everyone! Just joined and looking for support

I decided to join after looking through post of both veterans and newer members. Everyone seems so supportive of one another.

I had gastric bypass surgery on July 20th. My starting weight was 238. I’ve lost 31 pounds during the past five weeks. I started have issues with that sensation of food being stuck in my throat. I ended up having an X-ray with contrast dye and was told I had a stricture. Last Monday my surgeon did another surgery to try to correct it. I was told that this only happens in 2 percent of patients.

I am still on the purée plan and looking forward to advancing to soft foods. I’m meeting with a NP at my surgeons office on Wednesday.

Dianeseattle Thank you for your reply. I’ve read many of your posts and found them to be comforting to me. After you had your surgery, did you experience issues with swallowing pills or food? I’m trying to figure out if this is common post operatively.

A majority of the pills that I’m taking are capsules. I’m going to ask my doctor if I can break open the pills and mix with apple sauce.

I looked at the smoothies on the Bariatric Food Source website. There are a few of them that sound delicious. I’m getting really sick of purée foods. Tomorrow I’ll find out if I can progress to the soft plan. I’m really hoping that I can.

I started my bariatric surgery journey at the end of March attending an online seminar. It took four months from start to finish or my surgery day on July 20th. I feel like there are many things that I’m learning now that I wish I were aware of before I had surgery.

I had surgery a week ago this past Monday due to what I thought was a structure. One of the MD’s said that scar tissue was removed from where my stomach and intestines meet.

I’m still having issues with swallowing. When I drink beverages, I can feel that stuck sensation and here gurgling like it’s traveling down a stuck pipe. I asked about the balloon procedure, but was told that this nothing is wrong with my esophagus or opening to my stomach.

I was told that I could progress to the soft food plan. I’m excited and anxious about this because of the issues I’ve had. I’m planning to make chili tomorrow.

The MD told me that this is rare and only 1 or 2 percent of patients experience this. He then went on to say that this could also be psychological. I quickly told him that this is not the case and that something physically is wrong.

I’ve lost 33.6 pounds since my surgery on July 20th. I’m happy about this but concerned and feeling a little depressed because the second surgery did not seem to correct the issue. I was told to call the office next week to let them know how I’m doing and I have another appointment in two weeks.

Welcome! I’m sorry for the difficulty you’ve had, but congrats on the success so far! I’m a little worried about swallowing pills after my surgery. I spoke with my primary and she said my thyroid meds can be crushed, so that’s good for the beginning. My BC is so tiny I’m not really worried about that one. Anything else I need after my surgery I’m going to try to either crush, chew (if applicable), or dissolve with water and drink.

Thanks. My pills are capsules so they’re hard to swallow. I was told not to take any of my pills for a week. That’s a great idea to try to crush the pills and swallow them. I don’t think I could handle the taste. It was suggested to mix in with apple sauce. When is your surgery?

I am going to do the Chewable Vitamin Pills in the beginning.

I use vanilla shakes & use MIO & other squirts, also vanilla extract in my shakes & water, this way you can change the flavor daily so U don't get bored. The quirts R good but I find the vanilla extra makes them taste better when added.
Orange/Tangerine w/ Vanilla Extract taste like a Orange Creamsicle
Blueberry w/ Vanilla tastes like Blueberry Creamsicle
Pineapple w/ Vanilla & tastes like Pina Colada

U can always add Protein Concentrate to your water w/ these flavors & it gives U a Protein Drink. I got my Concentrate from Amazon & my Dietician approved it Proteinex unflavored brand. U can add it to your broth also 15 grams of protein, w/ 1 Tablespoon, digests better, no more clumps.

I met with my dietician on Wednesday and she suggested that I take chewable vitamins. My bariatric center recommends Celebrate.

I started making my own shakes and smoothies. My favorite is chocolate peanut butter.

2 tablespoons powdered peanut butter
Half of frozen banana
1 tablespoon coco (unsweetened)
8 ounces almond milk
1 scoop unflavored protein power
1 or 2 packets Trevia

I found a recipe for bariatric friendly no crust pumpkin pie. I’m going to bake in 6 ounce dishes. I’ll post a picture!
