Hello everyone.

I have made an appointment for an initial consultation for Gastric Bypass surgery. I am very excited & am looking forward to getting the process started. My sister, her husband, & 2 of my cousins have already had the surgery. Any tips, suggestions, etc. that can be given will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Pam-ella Welcome. You are on a wonderfull journey. It sounds like a few people close to you have made the same journey so you already have a good support group around you that is a great start. I guess you should start off by deciding on what type of WLS suites you best, we are all different, I didn't want the band because of having an implant where I could have complications when I was out in the middle of nowhere, so I had the RnY, that wasn't my only deciding factor though.

Once you have decided on the proceedure do everything your doctors, surgons and nutritionists tell you to do, it is very important if you want this to work. Learn to chew rour food up real well, try out different protien drinks but stay away from some of the brends that are high in surgar and crbohydrates you wont be able to tolerate them very well after surgery. Attend some WLS support groups to hear from other WLS folks so you can see and hear how they are doing and what helped them to decide to have the surgery and what type to have. Thats all I can think of at the moment but feel fre to ask if you have more questions. Come back and let us know how you are doing there are a great bunch of folks here to help you on you journey. Tom
