Hello from Florida. I had the sleeve done 2 years ago and I am pleased with the results. I was warned it wasn't going to be as speedy as the other two surgeries, but it would be a steady loss and that it has been. I have lost 80 pounds and haven't gained any weight back. I am at a size 12 which I love and feel absolutely normal. I love to try on clothes in the regular clothes section and see that they fit. My goal would be another 20 pounds and perhaps it will come off in another year, but I don't think about it. I just follow my eating program. I can only eat about 2 cups of food at a meal if I am lucky and I stay away from a lot of carbs because they swell in my stomach. I don't eat salad because that doesn't offer nutritional value to my diet. I drink V-8 for my veggies and eat a vegetable 1x/day, frequently as a snack. I cook veggies and leave them in the refrigerator to reheat or eat cold. I do eat bread sometimes as toast with my eggs. 1 slice of high protein bread with an egg on top makes a nice sandwich for breakfast. I know what I can handle and what leaves a sick feeling in my stomach.
I don't think of this as a temporary thing, but a lifetime change. My husband has changed his eating habits also, making many changes like mine and has lost 50 pounds. It is great to have a supportive spouse and not one to cause more stress over my decision. I strongly encourage anyone thinking about weight loss surgery to not tackle this life change without including your spouse. Usually they are overweight anyway and shouldn't be telling you things like " you should be eating more, you can have one..." They are only enabling you to fail. Don't hide your decision from family and friends. They know your weight struggle and will be supportive. Most overweight people have other health issues and need to loose the pounds to become healthy again. My blood sugar has become normal and I have stopped my insulin within a week. My blood pressure has gone down and I have so much more energy you wouldn't believe it. Plus, I feel good about myself!
