My name is Shari. I had my first surgery in 2004..gastric bypass, rny, and duodenal switch. Since then there have been many other surgeries and visits to the hospital. I have had to have portions of my small intestines removed, my right colon totally removed, many hernia repairs and then repairs done because I kept rejecting the mesh. Plus I kept getting abcesses in my abdomin which needed to be drained. I had the switch and rny revised in 2010 because of dumping syndrome and very low blood sugars( part of the dumping syndrome). Ihave had the size of my pouch made smaller twice due to unhealthy tissue around the duodenal/stomach valve. I have had j-tubes for hydration and nutrition.I developed a hiatal hernia and severe reflux. It was causing me to have acid go into my lungs resulting in pnuemonia. I had the hernia repaired and the rny redone in 2011. I was extremely ill and developed a large abdominal abcess. I almost lost my life.I started to dramatically lose weight and became even more malnourished (having bypass andrny's makes you already malnourished. Thats why the protien drinks and vitamins are needed). May of this year I had adhesions released, another hernia repair and a feeding tube put in (again). Since getting the feeding tube I have not been able to use it on a regular basis ( I just cann't tolerate them very well). I struggle everyday to eat something orally. My weight has continued to drop. The two bariatric docs that I have seen have told me that there is nothing left that they can do to help me.I will continue to be malnourished and lose weight. I am on 4 different nausea meds and a pretty strong pain killer. I eat bites then I'm full to the point of pain and nausea. I try to stop eating before that starts but most of the time I have no warning that my body is going to reject the food. Yet dispite all of this mess, I know that without the bypass I would probably not be here. My surgeon is a wonderful doc. I trust his treatment plan and know that I am getting the best care possible for all the problems I am having. This week I have developed an infection at the j-tube site. It will need to be removed and a new one put in, which means another surgery. I have tried TPN but my liver doesn't like it.
So thats my story. I appreciate a site like this that encourages people to support eachother.
