I had surgery in March right before Covid hit
I did not get to have a support groups. It’s been a mental challenge over a year later I still think I’m obese. I think I’m hungry when I’m not. I picked up smoking cigarettes after 11 plus years of not smoking. My children think I’ve lost my mind along with the weight.

What a challenge! Right before COVID and the stress with this last year. What horrible timing for you. One step you are taking is to get involved in this forum and share and release some of those things. Keep reaching out and at least talk about it. That can help.

You know the good vs bad choices to make, but it's not always easy to do, is it?

I would try to take some steps with the smoking immediately.

As far as being hungry, you might consider keeping a food log for a bit, not to track calories, but to track how you feel after eating certain foods. Sometimes adjusting foods can have a big impact on how long you feel satiated. Even the order in which we eat foods can make a difference. All you need to do is note what you ate, you don't need to track any numbers. Two or three hours later (or at any time) note how you feel. Do you feel hungry, satiated, energetic, lethargic, sleepy, etc.? After a while you might start seeing patterns of certain foods that increase your hunger and others that stick with you longer. Consider adding or removing foods to your diet to see how they make you feel.

Are you doing any exercise? Consider slowly adding that in as well.

It's been a crazy year and a half, for sure. Keep reaching out and sharing, even if only to vent. It can be cathartic and helpful.

I like this idea very much and I'm going to try it.

Some foods actually disgust me foods I use to love like chocolate, cake, ice cream just the thought turns my stomach that’s really awkward

Change is the challenge we all face. How we deal with it is the answer. I am a former smoker but can’t imagine going back to it. I dreamed for the first year after I quit that I was still smoking, it so messed with my head. The financial freedom is what keeps me from going back to smoking. I would feel guilty and feel I betrayed myself if I went back. My weight gain actually started when I quit smoking but even that would not convince me to go back. That is my story and I don’t want you to feel bad. Hang in there you will find an answer.
