I havent surgery yet, (May 31st)but from what ive read, there is an adjustment period for the body after surgery. Also, it takes time to get a routine of sipping water all the time and getting enough protein. You can speak with surgeon to make sure and also speak with nutritionist to get advice on how to take in enough protein etc. Hang in there, it should get better!

Hi Ryan's Mom- I had my sleeve 2 months ago and felt exactly the same way you do. At my follow-up to the doctor I told him I was depressed, constipated and dehydrated. He said that was all normal and reminded me that I had major surgery. All he recommended is to follow all the instructions and diet information and do the best I could. I snapped out of it and you will, too!

It's been over a year since my surgery. What you are feeling is common. For several months, I felt like I had made one of the biggest mistakes of my life. But things got better. Now that I'm this far in, I've even relaxed a bit on the dos and don'ts. ( I even had a few M&Ms the other day) Because of that, I have not lost as much weight as I could have. But it's still coming off so I'm happy. Just hang in there. It gets better!

I hated the supplements right after surgery, too. But I found that things tasted different for a few months after. I had trouble with the protein shakes, too, for the first few months. They seemed too thick and sweet. Now my tastes seem to be back to normal. I like the Fusion orange cream supplement the best. And I've tried many protein shakes. I keep the Premier caramel and banana on hand. I'm not a fan of the chocolate. I also like the Special K from the cereal isle. It's only 15 grams, but the vanilla and strawberry are good. If I drink one in the morning during work and another in the evening, there's 30 grams. You'll see. It will get much easier to get the protein you need once you can eat more regularly. I would suggest going online, or to your local stores, and buying a few different brands and flavors. That's the only way you'll figure out which ones you like. And there are more and more protein options coming available. I just saw a commercial for a high protein Special K cereal. I haven't looked at it, yet, but I'm certainly going to read the labels to see if it's worth a try.

Anyway, try to cheer up. Go out and do something fun. Go out with some supportive friends who will ooh and ahh over what you have already accomplished. If you're still wearing your old clothes, like I did, go buy a few things that fit. Even if it won't fit you in a few months. It will make you feel better if you have clothes that aren't falling off of you. It did me, and I'm not a clothing person. I just know I felt frumpy in that big stuff and that wasn't helping.
