According to the scale I have gained 5lbs in the last 3 days. Since I have upped my protein. I'm stressing out. I actually follow the rules and measure and weigh everything. I work out 3 times a week and I don't eat a lot of carbs. My daily carbs are like less than 20g. There is no way in hell that is 5lbs of muscle. what the hell is going on with my sleeve. I eat less than 500 cals a day.

Hi McManis, Welcome. Your down 45 lbs from your starting weight, thats wonderful. There cou;d be a few reasons that you are up 5 lbs, it could water weight or you are building muscle mass or your body has gone into starvation mode due to so few calories a day, when we decrease our coloric intake drasticly like that our bodies slow down our metabolism causing us to stop losing weight and at times gain weight, it can be a balancing act when we are on a reduced calorie meal plan, try increasing your calories upto about 800 a day preferably in high protien foods and see if that helps. Let us know if that helps. Tom

Welcome, McManis,

Like Tom said, might be water weight. The weight you've lost since surgery is good. 5 pounds is just over 1/2 gallon. Not so much when you consider it's spread all over your body. Are you getting enough fluids and fiber?

You've come to a good place. You'll find lots of friendly support here.

I also had the sleeve and am 4 months post op. I occasionally go up a pound and then lose it again. It could be your new scale. See if you continue to lose now that you have a baseline #. I like my doctor's scale it weighs me less than my scale. I too was told I was not eating enough. Like Tom said your body might be trying to hold on to the weight. I was told to add 2 snacks to my food plan as the nutritionist is trying to get me up to at least 800 calories. It is hard because I have never been a snacker. Do make sure to get your protein in this is essential. I understand your frustration, but I think it is just a bump in the road. Come back and update us on your progress. Peace out

Mcmanis-Ya know, that happens to me all the time and I feel your pain. I have a newer digital scale and depending on if I have shoes on, where I place my feet and how I shift my weight the scale will vary up to 5 pounds. I try to place my feet exactly the same way and balance my weight exactly the same each time in order to get a consistant reading. Just to be sure I weigh myself at least 2 or 3 times and once I get the same weight twice I know I am doing everything right :) Plus, I wear the same "amount" of clothing to make sure I am not adding or subtracting more weight than what I should be. I use my surgeon's scale as the base line because his scale shows me 5 pounds lighter than my own scale so when I weigh at home I automatically subtract 5 pounds :) :) :)

So try doing everything the same way each time and weigh yourself the morning before you go to your PCP or surgeon's office to get your base line weight then just do the math to find the difference between your scale at home and the one at the doctor's office. And above all, try not to get so discouraged. It's normal for weight to fluctuate a couple of pounds a day. Plus, us ladies can retain fluid weight from time to time and you need to take that into consideration. I can tell if I am retaining fluid by how my favorite shoes fit or if either of my ankles are swollen more than usual.

Hi! Just remember.. 3500 calories = 1 lb. if you didn't eat an extra 17,500 calories in the past few days.. It is not a weight gain of fat! Something else is in play. Maybe the scale you are using, maybe water weight, or muscle or your body adjusting.. Unless you consumed that many extra calories, you don't need to worry about it. The weight loss will catch up to you! Good luck to you in your journey!
