I had no idea. . .

Roux en y done on Wed March 2. I tried hard to do my pre-op research but had no idea post op could suck this bad!!
I was discharged home on Thursday and have been hard core struggling since. Gas pains are bad, can’t hit my targets yet for protein and fluids, i walk around with a vomit bag, and I’m trying like hell to remember why I did this. Someone please tell me it gets better!!

It gets better. If you don't have them, call your doctors for nausea and pain meds. Heating pads can help with the gas pains.

What are you using for protein? I highly, highly suggest Isopure Zero Carb. It's good for clear liquid and what they use at the hospital. You can add 2 scoops into say 12-20 oz of water to get you 40 grams immediately. It is what I used and what I just gave my husband when he got home after his sleeve surgery on Feb. 15th.

80 grams of protein and 64 oz of water are a goal. You may not be able to meet your goal yet or every day for the next few weeks. Please try for at least 48 of each. It gets better!! Hang in there.

Thank you!!!!! I’ve been drinking premier protein shakes, which I loved preop, but now they’re hard to keep down. Will check for isopure at the local store. Thank you for helping me know there’s good stuff beyond this!

That often happens with the protein shakes. Note to anyone pre-op, don't overstock before surgery because your tastes may change. They may also change again, so perhaps revisit the premier protein shakes at a later date and try some others like the one Missy suggested.

Some people have a rougher time after surgery than others. Everyone is different. But it will get better. Hang in there!

Only you know why you had this surgery - but I can tell you why I had the surgery. I wanted to live my life. I was on the sidelines watching my life go by. I wanted to be a healthier person - maybe even help my husband and kids get healthier along the way. I wanted to be in front of the camera - not always behind it. I wanted to be in the photos not just taking them. I wanted to be able to walk on the beach with my husband. I wanted to possibly add years to my life. I wanted to L.I.V.E.

I promise there will be great days, good days, bad days, what the hell days, and even fuck me sideways day. It does get better. For me it was completely worth it!

Now, why did you have the surgery?

Lol!! Adding “fuck me sideways” to my list of favorites. Thank you. It really helped to remember how many years I’ve been considering surgery (at least 10), how amazingly lucky I felt when I had an insurance plan to cover a big chunk of the cost, and how much I hate hiding, trying to cover up and make myself smaller, and worrying that I’ll have a heart attack that will leave my little without a mom. Feeling much better today and grateful for everyone’s support. Was not expecting post op to be quite so bumpy!
