I made it through the liquid stage... on to puree!

Well, I made it! One month on a liquid diet! Tomorrow I start pureed foods. I spent the day cooking my first set of puree foods. (Full disclosure, I cheated... I was tasting my pureed foods all day and they were YUMMY. And my stomach handled it well.)

This morning, I went to the grocery store to get fresh ingredients for my puree menu. If you would like to see what I made, check out my post today in the recipes forum.

In addition to my ingredients, I also got some staples that I was told would be good for my puree diet. Here is what I got:

Low-fat cottage cheese
Low-fat sour cream
2% plain greek yogurt
Low-fat flavored yogurt (nervous about this, has A LOT of sugar!)
Sugar-Free chocolate pudding

Dang it! I forgot the malt-o-meal... AGAIN!

That, plus the purees that I made today, should give me flavor, protien, and variety! Plus, more to come!

That's great, congratulations! Sounds like you're going to be our expert chef in the pureed food stage! :)

Well, things went well on Puree Day 1! A couple of things that surprised me, especially after hearing everyone else's experiences:

1) I do feel full! After eating 1/2 or 1 tablespoon of food, my stomach certainly tells me to stop. I have to wait 2-3 minutes before I continue.

2) If I slouch at all while I eat, food gets trapped above my stomach. I have to sit up ramrod straight to get it to move into my stomach.

3) The wierdness of changing taste preference continues... I already mentioned I suddenly don't like coffee (I have not tried the black/espresso experiment yet). But yesterday I discovered that 2% plain greek yogurt now tastes like sour cream to me, and today I found that I LIKE cottage cheese? I have ALWAYS hated both of those foods. Greek yogurt always tasted like wet cardboard, and cottage cheese made me gag. Now, I love 'em both! Part of this may be that I have been liquid only for a month.

4) I get hungry... but the cravings have stopped. My stomach tells me when it wants to eat, and it is pretty much on the desired schedule of every 2-3 hours. And the "hunger" goes away immediately after the first bite. What a strange feeling THAT is... I used to be starving after work, stop and get 2 burgers, fries, and a large coke, and THEN I was only hungry (not starving). I would then go home and have dinner with my wife.

I don't know... maybe this is wishful thinking on my part... after all, it is only day 1 of puree!

This is the stage I stayed in the longest. As all I could eat for about 2 months was greek yogurt, and string cheese. And I still eat chobani flips all the time. I found that this stage goes the fastest. At me for me it did, as I still wasn't ready for the next stage after embargo was lifted. So I stayed on this stage until I felt comfortable moving on. But the weight loss and no the hunger was amazing though.

I am struggling with this stage, more thaN i was on the liquid stage. I have gotten bored quickly, and I am having trouble getting my protien and water in.

I just don't want to eat or drink. I am having to force myself to do so. I am down to about 35g of protien, and that isn't going to cut it. I started drinking shakes again today, still only got to 40g.

I also cheated today... my wife made herself some homemade fries... I stole about 6 of them. I chewed them very slowly and carefully. They were fantastic!

I also made another lemon and herb chicken today, so I can make a creamy chicken and mushroom soup tomorrow, and I pilfered a few bites of chicken. Same deal. My stomach didn't fight back.

So, I am not going to get on my own case about it. Made some fantastic progress in 5 weeks, down 43 lbs yesterday, and will weigh in again tomorrow. So, I had a few bites of real food... that's OK. I just need to make sure I regulate it. Wish me luck!
