Important question

I think it can happen, but that’s a great question. Maybe see what your surgeon and OB have to say. I’d be interested in the answer.
I had my bypass at 38 yo. After my hormones went totally nuts. I had a lot of unexpected periods, so much so that I needed an ablation. But I’m done having kids, so I was ok with that.
Not to get crazy personal, and you don’t have to answer, but have you had the blood work to check how fertile you are? Since women, unlike men, are born with a certain number of eggs vs sperm that just keep on recreating, it might be worth looking into with your OB to know where exactly you’re at. Just a suggestion, and you might already know all this.

I am new to this page so I am just coming across this. I have been obese since middle school, and probably morbidly obese since high school. I started my cycle SUPER late, like around 18y/o and if was completely irregular. I would have it for 3 weeks, then not again for 3 months, then have it for months regularly and again with the irregular. Then I just completely stopped having it, for years. I never cared so I never said anything to my OB or DR. I mean who wants a period anyway? But then at a yearly visit I had "bad cells" with the potential of cancer. So then it came up during questioning that I don't have my cycle and I need to because that is what flushes the "bad cells" from building up and potentially causing cancer. BLAH BLAH BLAH.. long story (kinda) short, I lost 120lbs and started my having my cycle regularly naturally. Even when gaining it back and loosing it again and gaining it back AGAIN I am still very regular with my cycle. I keep hoping that the WLS does not mess it all up and give me mega periods or something crazy.

Don’t be surprised if it does get crazy for a short time. Please discuss that with your OB and bariatric surgeon.

I was very athletic when I was young. I was slow to menstruate I was 16 1/2. Was pretty happy to not have it in jr high. Parents were beginning to go in to crisis mode because I was so slow to start. But that could have been due to “dad” aka stepfather touched me at 10 years old. He was raised in Catholic boarding school. It explains but does not make it right. My sisters were his so they didn’t get bothered, at least that is what they say. They don’t believe me and never have. I was never really regular 30- 40 days apart, I didn’t miss months but they were always heavy and lasted 5-10 days. Had hysterectomy at 35 for endometriosis. Quack dr put 10 laparoscopic staples in ureter, guess he thought it was a vein. He shut off my right kidney for two years even though I complained at 6 week follow up appointment. He doesn’t practice in Illinois as a result.
