Initial vsg appointment

hi Dani. My first step was a webinar (as expected in Rona World) and the surgeon who presented was the surgeon who will be doing my surgery. After that I had a one-on-one video chat with the surgeon and from there the appointments were all set up. I've yet to see anyone face to face, but will meet the surgeon in person in two weeks. From there I'm thinking it will be a fast track to surgery. The webinar was end of June and the scheduler intimated the surgery could take place in September. Not everyone's insurance allows that, but I have Cigna and so far they are onboard. Good luck and keep track of your questions! You'll see lots of good info here.

I have Aetna, and they require dietician and counselor visits first. My initial appointment was with a dietician to establish what I wanted, basic diet, and expectations. The next month I saw the counselor. Basically I had to fulfill both their requirements before being scheduled with the surgeon.

Hey, I’m having my consultation/initial appointment with the surgeon, is everyone’s initial appointment with their Surgeon?
There are many differences between the weight loss centers/clinics out there. My insurance didn't have any specific requirements, but the weight loss center I used had a specific process: Intro meeting, dietician, Nurse Practioner, Physical Therapist, Psychologist, Surgeon, and then the surgery date was set. Some of the appointments were held on the same day, so I wasn't making too many trips.

There really isn't a concrete standard for how it's supposed to go, but most weight loss clinics and/or insurance do have a few steps to go through before the surgery is scheduled, regardless who your first appointment is with.
