I am looking to get an individual medical insurance plane....December will be 5 years post surgery-healthy as can be-and noone will accept me because I had the surgery!!I was covered by a job insurance in past so this is a shock to me...anyone know Insurance companies that do accept post bariatric surgery clients for individual policies? Thanks

As far as I know there is at least one medical insurance company in every state that can not refuse coverage to anyone for any reason. In Michigan it's Blue Cross Blue Shield. Try calling them. If they are not the default insurance carrier in your state they may be able to tell you who is.

I went through the insurance nightmare for 9 or 10 months after my COBRA coverage ended 18 months after I was laid off and before I became eligible for SS disability and Medicare. The BCBS premium was very high with big co-pays, huge deductibles, no maximum out of pocket annual caps AND no prescription coverage. It was better than no insurance though. I know a lot of families from where I worked that couldn't afford the coverage because they had kids to feed and clothe. They found a company here in Michigan that they were able to get coverage for their minor children at a very minimal cost. I wish I had the information to pass along. Anyone interested can probably find more information on the Internet.
